Chewy.com: Catch of the Day!

This month I chose a fish treat for dogs made by Plato Pet Treats as my Chewy.com product for review. #ChewyInfluencer

The treats are called Hundur's Crunch and they are made from 100% fish skin. That's it! Nothing else!

These are healthy treats that give your dog a good protein boost!

I let Jimmy trying a little fishing game for his part in this review......He loves to swim!

Once we had our fresh catch, the boys did a little taste testing. I'll let these pictures do the talking....

Now, of course, I did NOT taste test these treats myself! But I can tell you they do have a strong fishy smell that is wonderful to the dogs, but you probably won't want to drop one in your pocket. They are called Jerky Fingers and that is a pretty accurate description of their size, about as long as your index finger but rectangular.

They are very crunchy and don't easily break into smaller pieces without the help of strong canine teeth! They are crispy and not chewy so my dogs crunched them up in five or six bites. My dogs adored these Hundur's Crunch treats and I will definitely buy them more in the future!

Chewy.com: Tylee's Turkey Recipe: First Impressions

The good folks at Chewy.com asked me if I would be interested in trying a new food that is exclusive to their store. This is a month long trial to see how my dogs do on this food. Now normally, I feed raw. If this food had been kibble, I would have said no, thank you. But this food is a little different and it really piqued my interest. It is a frozen home-cooked food called Tylee's. I opted for the turkey recipe. It has a great blend of meat, organs, and fresh fruits and veggies.

I opened the bag and took a peek as well as a big sniff.......

Keep in mind this food is frozen. I can honestly say it smelled wonderful. No dog food smell at all! My first whiff was cinnamon followed by the scent of cranberries. It smelled like real food and here's why......as it is clearly says on the bag.....

Hopefully everyone knows to stay away from anything sourced in China!

Tylee has made up a little brochure about gradually transitioning your dog to this new food. It's always best to ease into it by mixing your old food with the new food.

The food at the top of the bowl is my usual raw food and the nuggetts and veggies are Tylee's.

Look at the adorable little scoop Chewy sent along to help with the measuring! (You do measure your dog's food, right? It really helps with weight control!)

All this putzing I was doing as I gave Tylee's the once over had my boys very impatient. If it smelled good to me, you can only imagine how great it was for their super-sharp canine olfactory sense!

Jimmy and Wilson tucked right into their food and not a bit was left over, not even a carrot cube or a cranberry. Of course, they are Corgis after all, so they are not known as picky eaters!

Final notes on my first impression:

I want to add one update to this post after a question I received. This is not freeze-dried food. You do not need to add water and wait for it to reconstitute. It is cooked food that has been frozen so it will last longer. You just need to thaw it before serving. Since it keeps up to 10 days after thawing (in the fridge of course!), you could thaw enough for a few meals so your dogs didn't have to wait for each meal.

I love to laugh, so I always appreciate a sense of humor however/whenever it can be provided....

Here's to packaging that isn't boring!

I do have one con so far....The package comes with a zip-top closure. After about the third time of pulling the bag open, the zipper broke away from the plastic bag. No big deal, I just used a clip, but perhaps it could be made a bit more sturdy.

Chewy.com: Better than a Pot of Gold!

Jimmy O'Cardigan and Paddy O'Wilson are thinking they are having the Luck of the Irish this month with the arrival of their March Chewy.com product review. I chose Victor brand canned food in Irish Stew   Turkey and Sweet Potato Stew flavor.

Wilson thinks this stew would go well with his green beer.....goggles!

The food had large chunks of carrots and other veggies along with the turkey. It came in a creamy sauce. This is a grain-free food that is supplemented with vitamins and minerals. My guys thought it was quite tasty! I normally feed a raw diet but on the occasion when I forget to thaw something, canned food is a good substitute. I know my dogs will eat Victor brand with gusto! I also really liked the easy open pull tab on the can. Great for travel when you forget the can opener!

Chewy.com: Quack! Quack!

Between the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and also starting a new job early in December, I am afraid I missed the deadline for my Chewy.com December product review! My apologies to Chewy!

I picked a Stella and Chewy's product from the list of goodies we had to choose from. I opted for the Duck flavor Meal Mixer Superblend.

Right off the bat let me list three good positives about this product.....

1) An easy open pull tab! I don't know about you, but I often have trouble getting into zip-locked bags when they are new. This little tab took care of that problem!

2) Even the small 3.5 ounce bag came with a nice plastic scoop for measuring a correct serving.

3) A two dollar coupon toward your next bag!

Wilson was busy catching some post-holiday ZZZZZZZZZZ's so Jimmy was the lucky guinea pig. He showed no hesitation at all!

This is freeze-dried raw so you can either add water and let it soak, or feed it like a biscuit. I used the biscuit style and Jimmy LOVED it. You can add it to your regular food to boost nutrition or feed it as a treat. Either way it is a great addition to your dog's diet!

Chewy.com: Fresh Fish!

As I've mentioned in other posts, I am primarily a raw feeder for my dogs. However, it is always a good idea to have some kibble on hand for when I forget to thaw Jimmy's and Wilson's next meal. And of course, I want that kibble to be a super premium quality! So when Chewy.com offered Victor brand, I thought I would give it a try!

I chose their Yukon River Salmon and Sweet Potato Grain-free variety because any time I can add more fish to my dogs diet, I jump on it!

The kibble had a nice, mild fish smell, nothing over-powering. The kibbles were quite small so any size dog should enjoy these. I think they would make good training treats as well.

Jimmy and Wilson are nothing if not enthusiastic taste testers! I had a hard time getting my initial shot set up as they were ready to DIG IN!

We don't always eat at the table, but when we do,
 it's for classy food like Victor's Salmon!

The first two ingredients are fish, salmon being first so you know there is plenty of good fish in this food!

Chewy.com: Blue's Mummy Morsels

I have to pat myself on the back for this review. My October Chewy.com product arrived on my doorstep just this morning, and here I am ready to go with my post!

This month I chose Blue's Mummy Morsels, not only because they would give me a Halloween theme to work with, but because I reviewed a similar product last year, and the boys LOVED them. I must say, these smelled delicious and I was very tempted to try one myself!

Now I did learn something as well.....toilet paper does not a good mummy costume make! Here is a very tolerant Jimmy dressed as a TP Mummy. Every time he tried to grab a Mummy Morsel, his whole costume disintegrated! We went through a lot of TP, let tell you!

Here is what these wonderfully aromatic treats look like.They even have cute little designs! That has to be for the human!

These are definitely crunchy biscuits, and if you try to break them into smaller pieces, you'll have a crumbly mess. You can snap them in half but no smaller. Of course your dogs don't want you to make them smaller anyway!

Chewy.com: Nature's Variety Meal Blends

This month Chewy.com  offered so many great products it was really, really  hard to choose just one! I am primarily a raw feeder when it comes to Jimmy's and Wilson's meals, so I decided to try Nature's Variety Instinct rawMarket Meal Blends for those times I forget to thaw the boys' next food.

This is a freeze-dried raw product. As such, it needs to be re-hydrated prior to feeding by adding some water and letting it sit. And sit some more! I knew I it would take a bit of time, but even at the 20 minute mark, it was still fairly dry. My dogs are noisy when waiting for their dinner, so it felt like a very long time indeed! Next time, I will be a bit more stealthy, and not let them know what I am doing until it is finished soaking. It is a good idea to plan ahead with freeze-dried food. Of course you could sprinkle a bit of this over their regular kibble (without soaking it first) as a nutrition boost. Both boys were happy to eat dry pieces I offered them.

Now, that being said, my guys both tucked into this food like it was the tastiest thing they had had in a long time!

Fortunately for Jimmy and Wilson, I'm a lot nicer than Mr. Bumble and gave them a few dry pieces for dessert!!!

My dogs definitely enjoyed this food. It's a bit pricey for regular use, but as a back up food, it got all 8 paws up from my corgis! Thank you Chewy.com for letting me try another great product!

Chewy.com: I'm Very Impressed With This Food

For my Chewy.com product review this month, I chose to review a brand of kibble that was new to me. While I am primarily a raw feeder, I like to have kibble on hand for times when I forget to thaw something or for travel. So I opted to have Chewy send me a bag of Nulo brand kibble, in the flavor of Salmon and Peas Grain-Free .

Here's a close-up so you can get an idea of the kibble size:

This is a high-protein food and the very first ingredient (and therefore the most prevalent) is the Salmon. It also contains a probiotic strain to help with digestion. And of course, very importantly, it is made here in the good ol' USA!

My dogs loved this food! They thought it was a great treat! Since they don't eat kibble on a regular basis, this was something special.

Here's a picture of Wilson as I tried to pose him with the bag. I had a very hard time keeping his mouth  (and whole head!) out of the bag!
