Sometimes......

....I just can't come up with a clever blog post title! Today is one of those times!  During this period of unemployment I've found myself in, I am trying to make the best of the new freedom and free time I have, and have been taking the boys around to walk in new areas. We all enjoy the change of pace. The fall season is such a great time to be outdoors, with the heat and humidity a thing of the past.

So here are some shots taken on a recent walk......There is a bonus to being unemployed....places that are packed full of people on the weekends are blissfully empty on the week days! I had no trouble taking pictures without other people in the way!

This was Sunday's black and white picture.

This gate was beautiful but I couldn't do it justice.

This tree is on FIRE!

Be sure you don't miss my giveaway of Jackie's  newest book! Go HERE to enter!

Well Read Corgis Agree.......

.....Jackie Bouchard's new novel, House Trained,  should be at the top of your reading list!!!!

Now I have to confess, I am a big fan of Jackie's books and blog! ( and, NO! I am not biased just because Jackie has a Cardigan Corgi in the family!!!) I loved the first two books so I was pretty sure #3 would not disappoint me. Well, House Trained is now my favorite to date! Yes! It is that good! I think Jackie took her plot development to the next level! This story had  twists and turns I never saw coming! And for me that's what makes a book fun to read. I certainly don't want to have to issue any spoiler alerts so I will not be the one to divulge any of the surprises but just look at Jimmy's face and tell me he's not shocked! I think I heard him gasp!

Now, I'm not going to write a little blurb about what the story is about. Amazon can do a much better job than me, BUT I will do one thing Amazon won't....

I am going to give one lucky person their own copy of House Trained!  I was going to buy myself a copy of the book just the very second it went on sale (October 20th!!!!), but then Jackie so generously offered me an advance copy. (Boy, did that ever make my day! Thank you, Jackie!)  I am sure as heck not giving you that one. That one is staying in my personal library of great reads! But I will send you a brand new copy, one Wilson and Jimmy haven't drooled over!

Now, of course, if you have ever participated in any of my other giveaways, it's never quite as simple as just pulling your name from a hat (almost, but not quite!). I expect a little something in return in the form of entertaining comments. SO!

Tell me a funny story about the last time you tried house training a puppy or dog, or even your baby! I'll even start by telling my own little tale....

Years ago, when my first Cardigan Dylan was just a young pup, I knew nothing about using a crate. Dylan was always just free in my apartment. He was well on his way to being house trained. He knew perfectly well he was not supposed to pee or poop on the floor. So one day, while I was at work a bit longer than usual, poor Dylan had a bout of diarrhea. He could not wait for me to get home, but he also could not let it go on the floor. So smart boy that he was, he hopped up on my sofa and let it RIP! Hey, the sofa wasn't the floor, so no harm, no foul, right?! The sofa was one of those sectional styles and he managed to get lots of poop on every single piece! It was a pretty bad mess and I didn't even try to clean it. I just dragged the whole nasty thing out to the dumpster and started fresh!

OK! Your turn....tell me a funny story about house training!

PS Here's how I'll handle choosing the winner....please leave just one comment  and I will let random.org provide the number of the comment that is the winner. I will remind everyone next Wordless Wednesday and pull the winner on Friday the 23rd. Due to postage costs, I'm only going to ship within the United States. My apologies to those outside the US.

PPS Jodi  and Jackie, I want in on those margaritas!!! Don't you dare start without me!

_____________________________________________________________________________

Also, here's your final reminder about my GIVEAWAY  for a copy of Jackie's book What the Dog Ate. I'll be selecting the winner sometime tomorrow morning, so please be sure to comment (over on that post, not here on WW) before then if you want your name in the hat!

You Should Read This Book and I'm Gonna Help!......A GiveAway!

I was the very lucky winner of Jackie's book giveaway and just finished reading What the Dog Ate .

I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted tale of Maggie's and Kona's journey to build a new life. I think we can all relate to her struggle to start over, which is told with much wit and insight. I had several laugh-out-loud moments. I always know I've enjoyed a book when I am sad to reach the end. I rationed the last chapter or two just to keep it going. I'm going to miss Maggie!

Now, that's not to say there couldn't have been improvements. I definitely think the cover art could use a bit of a makeover, a little something like this maybe?

I understand that Jackie has a new book in the publishing pipeline. Based on how much I enjoyed What the Dog Ate, I am definitely looking forward to reading her next book!

OK, so let's get down to the details......If you would like a chance to win a brand new copy of Jackie's book What the Dog Ate,  please leave me a comment telling me the grossest or weirdest thing your dog ever ate. If you don't have a dog, it can be your cat, your baby, or even you! Please leave only one comment. I don't mind shipping to Canada , "across the pond", or even "down under", so don't hesitate to comment. I will select the winner, using Random.org, next Thursday, April 25th. I look forward to reading your comments!

Have a great weekend, Everyone!

Abstract Art?

"As the World Turns"

"Eye Love America"   or     "Eye of the Hurricane"

What title would you give this one?

I think Picasso would be a wee bit jealous. What do you think?

Once in a Blue Moon - A GiveAway!

As you might know, tonight's full moon is called a Blue Moon . Those are rather rare and so I thought I would commemorate this event with another rarity: a GIVEAWAY on my blog! Since I am pretty much certain that everyone that visits here is a dog person, if not necessarily a Cardigan person, I am going to give away a $20 gift certificate to the White Dog Bone Company . They have an endless supply of dog products to choose from, so I am confident there would be something for any winner! The gift certificates are emailed to the recipient so all the winner will need to disclose to me is their email address.

Of course, I am not going to make it completely easy. There has to be a little catch, right? Jimmy said he would help out, so he posed with his name. What you have to do is tell me where I got his name you see in the photos....What is it from? (and of course I don't mean where I bought it, that would be impossible, but what product?) Leave a comment to enter and I will pick the winner next Thursday 09/06/2012 via Random.org .

Here is Jimmy in super-model mode.....

All fresh and perky

Patience is still holding up well

Would you snap the picture already! I'm getting tired of being cute!

Yep! That's me alright!

Don't my teeth look great?

OK, I'm bored with this. We're done!

Have a great holiday weekend, Everyone!

The Butter Boys

I live in the thick of Northern Virginia suburbs, filled with countless cookie-cutter homes, small yards, and endless pavement. However, there are a few holdouts who have kept the feel of old Ashburn alive. A short walk from my house, via the W&OD trail, is a small farm complete with chickens, several horses, and even bee hives! The mild winter was really a boon for the flowering plants this year. Their horse pasture is covered in buttercups right now. I got as close as I could without risking Jimmy seeing the horses. He gets pretty amped up about them and I certainly couldn't risk him going for the chase! So here are the boys posed just outside the fence. The horses were not far away but the tall weeds, flowers, and grass kept them out of sight. Good thing they weren't curious about what I was doing and came for a visit.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

And don't forget about my GIVEAWAY.

The GiveAway!

So, as I mentioned, I am going to do a little giveaway....One of the leashes I received as a qualifying prize in Rally and also, the training bag/garden bag. They are pictured in my last post. The leash has a little label by the handle loop that says CWCCA 2012 with a paw print on either end, so it makes a good souvenir of the show. The training bag is more generic, but is still really cool.

Now, to add a bit of interest and trivia to the game, I am going to do it this way........

We arrived in Huron on Saturday. Since we weren't doing herding, we had a free day to fill. It was very cold and windy, so after walking the boys around the large hotel grounds, we settled them in the room and headed off to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. It was only about an hour east of Huron and made a good cold day adventure.

Here's the building, situated right on the shores of Lake Erie.....

If you are wondering why they picked Cleveland for the location of such a museum, here's the history....

It was an interesting place, sort of like the mother of all Hard Rock Cafes but without the alcohol. The displays change periodically as new items are lent to the museum. There was tons of great memorabilia, but alas, you were not allowed to photograph any of it, except for a few items in the ticket lobby. I found a couple worthy of photos and I am going to use those for my giveaway contest.

So, for the LEASH giveaway.....tell me the Rock and Roll significance of this next picture.....

For the TRAINING BAG giveaway, a bit more difficult puzzle, tell me whose car this is and for the tricky part, how it relates to one of my dogs....

So there you have it....Leave your answers in the comments...and I will still use a random number to choose the winner, but you need to at least take a stab at answering the trivia to win......I'll post the winners next weekend so that everyone has a chance to read the post and play.

Thanks for playing!
