I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted tale of Maggie's and Kona's journey to build a new life. I think we can all relate to her struggle to start over, which is told with much wit and insight. I had several laugh-out-loud moments. I always know I've enjoyed a book when I am sad to reach the end. I rationed the last chapter or two just to keep it going. I'm going to miss Maggie!
Now, that's not to say there couldn't have been improvements. I definitely think the cover art could use a bit of a makeover, a little something like this maybe?
I understand that Jackie has a new book in the publishing pipeline. Based on how much I enjoyed What the Dog Ate, I am definitely looking forward to reading her next book!
OK, so let's get down to the details......If you would like a chance to win a brand new copy of Jackie's book What the Dog Ate, please leave me a comment telling me the grossest or weirdest thing your dog ever ate. If you don't have a dog, it can be your cat, your baby, or even you! Please leave only one comment. I don't mind shipping to Canada , "across the pond", or even "down under", so don't hesitate to comment. I will select the winner, using Random.org, next Thursday, April 25th. I look forward to reading your comments!
Have a great weekend, Everyone!
Chase ate not one, but two Palm Treo Smart Phones -- within three months. Baddog!
ReplyDeleteSo I love my cardis too. My first Cardi named Byron loved to eat salad. So one night, I made a lovely fennel salad with black olives, roasted red peppers and parmasean cheese curls with a lemon/olive oil dressing. I put them on the coffee table to go and bring in the rest of the dinner. When I got in, Byron and finished my salad and was heading over to eat my husbands!

One of my childhood pets - a white toy poodle - ate a red balloon. We were in a panic when it came out, will tried to come out. I actually got hung in her butt, bulb side out....we thought she was dying until my sister grabbed a paper towel and pulled it out...we laughed so hard we were crying.
ReplyDeleteI think the new book cover is quite the improvement. Would love to read the book now that I have more free time.
ReplyDeleteBeamer once ate DK's Xbox Kinect (my birthday gift to him) and he enjoys eating Audi's eye boogers.
Happy Friday!!
I went ahead and added it to Kindle. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteSam
Thanks! I hope you'll enjoy it!
DeletePoop. Rabbit poop. Cat poop. Horse poop. Goose poop. Does not eat his or Keir's poop. Thank God. DO NOT KISS ME!!
ReplyDeleteLove your rendition of the cover! hehe.
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh.. I don't really want to say what the weirdest thing my dog has eaten was.. but.. well. My late Heeler mix, Harle, once ate.. a.. contraceptive device.. I only became aware of this when she pooped it out. Eek!
My sister's German Shepherd as a puppy swallowed a double-edged razor blade she used for crafts. By the time it was discovered, the vet said to "let it pass", which it did, seemingly with no harm done. The dog lived 13 more years. Since then, I've been super careful, and I can't think of anything weird my dogs have eaten...knock on wood.

Okay, I'm not entering of course, but I wanted to say thank you so much for the lovely write up about my book and for hosting the giveaway! I love the revised cover! LOL
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm cracking up reading all the comments. So glad the pups were all okay "in the end" ( so to speak). A double edged razor blade! Yikes!!
My Pembroke Corgi, Emma, ate my Handeaze stitching glove. She actually swallowed it whole and thankfully it came out whole too.
ReplyDeleteWoof! Woof! We LOVE both covers. The only thing I ate that was grossed to my mom was when I was a puppy she got me those dental floss toy ... Mmmmmmmmm not so good caused she had pulled out some nasty stuffs when I had to go #2. Gross her out and never bought me that was stringy. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteWhile I didn't see it consumed, Pallo managed to freak me out when I first adopted him. I kept finding little bbs around the house that week, and then, part way through the first week of having him, he puked up a shotgun shell. Not just the casing- the whole shell. Luckily, he appears to not have a chronic problem with eating random things (making me wonder if someone in his previous life tricked him into eating the shotgun shell in the first place). Crazy dogs anyhow.
ReplyDeleteBonnie--who is my daughter' dog but who was living with me at the time, picked up a baby bird that hd fallen from a nest. I told her to drop it, which she did. But before I could grab it, she grabbed and swallowed it in one gulp right before my eyes!!
ReplyDeleteOur cardigan, Giggs has the gross need to lick the hanging slober from our lab, Sadie's mouth. It makes me cringe just picturing it. He either thinks it’s a great source of hydration or Sadie needs cleaning up.
ReplyDeleteBella (standard poodlish) enjoyed a (surprised) squirrel who lost its footing on a wire overhead.
ReplyDeleteOur old Lab, Grace is a poop Connoisseur. She had one heck of a party earlier this week. Yacked up a big pile of... *gag* horse poop with side of cat poop! Blech!
ReplyDeleteI came into the house with half a frog in my mouth when I was a puppy. Peeps didn't know what had happened to the other half and freaked. She had to chase me round the house with it in my mouth till she caught me and made me dropped it in the garden. LOL! It was fun. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
A previous mixed dog in our family Puddles eat a key. It was not known until she got an xray for another purpose.
ReplyDeleteThe golden butts love eating hair from either their brush or the humans brush.
It wasn't Blueberry - but my previous dog Copper ate an entire jar of Vaseline (yes, it was a brand new jar) and it came out the other end leaving a very greasy mess on his long butt fur.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great book! I really enjoyed the humor. My dogs ate a baby duck. It was very sad. It was our first baby duck. We brought them indoors to raise after that.
ReplyDeleteMy dog Kota has eaten a lot weird stuff. The weirdest would be the bag balm and then my boyfriend's false teeth. He love's money too.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget when Jenny pooped out what appeared to be a tin can all chewed up into bits. Based on the label, friskies.....
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. I would love to read What The Dog Ate. My little chihuahua has a habit of eating weird things. She once ate snake skin. Yuck.

I'm not entering the give-away contest either, since my sis is the author, and I am her proof-reader/copy editor. (Little reminder there from you, Taryn, that I have to get busy on the proof of the next book!) I do love the revised cover with Wilson on the front. Keeping fingers crossed that we won't have anything too strange to add to the "what my dog ate" list with little Reggie.
ReplyDeleteBlue has eaten deer poop. Bettina eats anything including wasabi peas.
ReplyDeleteAlready read and loved the book!!! Clever cover! Who ever wins will LOVE it!!!
ReplyDeleteStill alive voles. Yuck! As we're telling Rudy to "leave it" he's swallowing... :-(
ReplyDeleteMy sister in laws dog brings in baby rabbits and eats them. They nest in their backyard and she digs them up and eats them each year! My dogs eat just about anything, I have one that will eat his poop if I don't watch him.
ReplyDeleteMy old dog Jasper had guts of steel and would eat ANYTHING - underwear, socks, dishtowels, an entire 2-layer birthday chocolate cake and the absolute worst... the neighbor's compost pile.
ReplyDeleteWell it isn't very weird, but it is still disgusting, Lacey just likes to eat poopl Doesn't matter what kind, as long as it isn't hers. :)
ReplyDeleteNot original I know but the grossest is the kitty tootsie rolls from the cat box...As I type this Gizmo is eating some overcooked broccoli that I wouldn't eat but he seems to be loving it...And I'd be happy to win a coy of Jackie's book
ReplyDeleteMike, Andy and I were camping in the Grand Canyon last week. On Tuesday, I crushed a bagel that nobody wanted, and stuffed it in the garbage. Wednesday, Andy got hungry, fished out the bagel (it was still in its wrapper, but the seal was broken), and ate it with cream cheese.
ReplyDeleteMy golden retriever once ate a mattress. Left home alone in the room for around thirty minutes and he tore it apart and ate most of it.
ReplyDeleteoh Amos likes to eat up Laptop charging cords...while they are plugged in
ReplyDeleteMy guys have eaten so much gross stuff but I think the worst one Buddy was the time he left what the cat left in the yard and the Bear had to be the remains of a rabbit left by a coyote.
ReplyDeleteI have a parrot that thinks she is one of the dogs. So she loves to feed both of my dogs peanuts and all types of her food. They wait until I have left the room and go and sit under her cage. The parrot picks out food and feeds each dog until I return to the room. I don't know who taught who this bad habit but it wasn't me. lol thank you BL
ReplyDeleteMy dog ate an entire canister of oatmeal. Doesn't sound that gross, until it came out all over the living room rug.
ReplyDeleteWell Sunday Delilah ate 3 to 4 cups of packing peanuts. You can imagine my shock and horror when I realized this. Needless to say, we waited anxiously for the outcome and I'm happy to report that yes, everything came out okay!
ReplyDeleteMy dog Penny loves to shred and eat tissues. I've also seen her eat a hairtie before!
