On the Mend

We picked up Wilson from the vet at about 6pm last night. The vet said it was a difficult extraction and it took a long time to to get the whole molar out. Poor Wilson was extremely out of it and groggy, with some swelling. We plopped him down on his bed and he went straight into a dead sleep. He didn't even notice when we had a snack while watching TV. That is so NOT Wilson! He did manage to rouse himself around 9 for a few bites of canned food, filled with pills.
We tried a bathroom break, but he was still staggering around and wouldn't go. So back to sleep until this morning. He was much brighter and, of course, hungry! A short walk, and he was back to sleep.

Jimmy, who is usually a vocal, bossy, in-your-face busybody, was an emotional wreck all day yesterday! He has spent very little time away from Wilson, just agility classes where he is happily distracted. But yesterday, the poor boy sulked and sulked. Not barking, no playing, just curled up in odd corners, worried about where Wilson had gone. I almost felt sorry for him. He gave Wilson a thorough inspection, determined he hadn't been off having fun based on all the awful veterninary smells, and curled up near him. Mystery solved.

In addition to the tooth, Wilson has one of those fatty tumors I associate with old Labs, that we will need to keep an eye on. And, really gross, he had picked up some nasty parasite from eating bunny poop. This was not his best physical, that's for sure, but at least we could resolve a few issues. I am sure he will be back to his old self by tonight.

  1. Oh poor Wilson!! I can't imagine a certain corgi I know not bothering to get up for a snack. He must have been BEAT. I am so glad everything went smoothly.

Yuck about the parasite from bunny-poo. That is a Bug delicacy.

  2. Poor guy. I bet by now he is already feeling much better, well maybe the owies still ache a little but at least that nasty sleep medicine is gone and he can EAT! That is what corgi's live for right?

  3. I hope your boy bounces right back to contribute his fair share of chaos to the household. It's so hard when the dog-friends do not feel well.
