Wilson Wondered Where the Wontons Were on Wordless Wednesday
I must give credit where credit is due....This title is another one that my friend Janet suggested when I posted this WW post. I'm not much into Chinese food so it took a while for me to have one of those little take-out boxes handy. Thanks again, Janet!

What a Wonderful Worker Wilson is on Wordy Wednesday!
Today's Wordless Wednesday post is one that requires a bit of explanation, so really this is Wordy Wednesday this week.
If you read my blog often enough, you know that I like to compete in AKC events such as Agility and Rally with my Cardigan Welsh Corgis. As with most breeds, there is a national club that supports and promotes Cardigans. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America has an awards program for recognizing members of the breed that have demonstrated their intelligence, biddability and team work. Back in July, I had a Weekend Report where I reported on Wilson earning the very last point he needed to qualify for this award. A few days back, after the AKC updated their results data, and I submitted the forms to the club, we received our formal certificate in the mail. Wilson earned titles in Agility, Herding, and Rally Obedience to show what a versatile working dog he is! I am proud of this sweet old man!
PS Jimmy earned his back in 2012!

Wilson Wondered Where in the Wide World Washington Was on Wordless Wednesday
Inspirational credit for today's WW goes to Jackie and her comment left on last Wednesday's post. It's not exactly what she meant but it was what I could pull off in a few quick minutes this morning. Thanks, Jackie! You kept WW going another week!

Monday Mischief: I Forgot My Own 5 Year Blogiversary!!!
It's my turn to be the mischief maker! Close on the heels of my 1000th blog post comes another milestone, FIVE YEARS of keeping up with this blog. Wow! That's half a decade already! But, do you know when that day occurred? Nope, not today, but over a week ago on June 1st! I completely missed that little fact and the day came and went without me even giving it a thought! Bad blogger, Bad!
Well, my intentions today are still the same as if I had remembered to post on the correct day......
Well, my intentions today are still the same as if I had remembered to post on the correct day......
A GIVEAWAY!!!
And of course, as I've done before, I'm going to make you earn it! I know I am not the only person who has these moments of forgetfulness, so why not tell me one of your silliest tales of when a lapse in your memory caused you some mischief. It can be a missed date like mine, or perhaps misplacing something and finding it in the oddest of spots. Please...do tell....in the comments.
For this little contest, the prize will be winner's choice! I am going to give you two prizes to choose from.....
If you are the lucky winner selected by Random.org, you can choose between:
1) A $20 Gift E-Card to the White Dog Bone Company
OR
2) A $20 Gift E-Card to Starbucks
This way you get to choose whose turn it is for a treat, you or the dog! No worries, I won't judge! LOL!
This is also very easy for me and you. All I have to do is get your email address and the E-Card will be sent directly to your inbox. No trips to the post office for me, and you don't have to reveal your home address!
I'll pick the winner next Monday, June 16th. OK everybody, let's see what you've got!

Monday Mischief: Once Bitten
A while back, I posted this picture of Wilson, channeling his inner vampire. This week it has become apparent that instead of dining on poor Jimmy, Wilson went for the conversion tactics! Imagine my shock and horror when I confronted this scene.............Click to enlarge for all the gory details!
Apparently Jimmy was turned! And now, Count Jimula has decided to exact his revenge on his maker! Maybe the life of a blood-sucker doesn't appeal to him! If we learn nothing else from old vampire movies, it's that killing the head vampire, frees his converts from their life of darkness. However, I can only assume Jimmy's plan for salvation did not work! Wilson is still among us! So does this mean I must now sleep at night with one eye open, ever watchful for two creatures of the night? Will I succumb to the vampire's mind control, thus filling their bowls with endless food? Who knows what evil lurks........
Yes, I know, I have read one (or maybe 100) too many vampire books and watched a lot of vampire movies. But it makes for good mischief!
Oh, and mischief number two today, it's snowing like CRAZY here and is supposed all day! Single digit temps tonight. Sigh.....so ready for spring.

What?! Wordless Wednesday Without Wilson?!
Since life has been a bit out of the ordinary lately, my ideas for Wilson's Wordless Wednesday never made it into a camera. So I thought I would share this photo of a much younger me on a very fun day. (Thanks go to Jackie and this post for reminding me of this old picture!)

FitDog Friday: How to burn off energy on a hot and humid day
My corgis hate hot weather. They really prefer to stay indoors when it's over 80 degrees and there is any humidity at all. This can make getting in enough activity a challenge as the Washington, DC area is notoriously steamy this time of year. Fortunately, the boys are more than willing to play fetch in our chilly basement. While it doesn't make up for an hour long walk, it does take the edge off.
Here they are playing fetch. Well, Wilson plays fetch, and Jimmy does his best to get in the way. Be sure to mute your speakers as there is lots of barking and my loud voice much too close to the camera!

Monday Mischief - Eye Contact!
The boys were playing in one of their favorite streams yesterday morning. Despite being in the woods, nice fetching sticks are at a premium here. When it really rains hard, the stream flash floods, and the banks are cleared of sticks, dirt, and all manner of debris. And this summer, we've had a lot of rain! I tossed a twig, and they both went for it! Both boys got it at the same time and a game of tug ensued. However, the game quickly became a bit too serious. Neither boy was going to let go! Growling started, then, snap!, Wilson had the lion's share of the stick and Jimmy had, well, not enough......I caught the moment. Just look at that canine body language! Fortunately, Wilson is never one for a fight, and he dropped the stick.....(as always click to enlarge)

FitDog Friday: Swimming!
I know I have already been sharing photos of my guys enjoying the neighborhood lake. But the topic is also a good one for FitDog Friday so I thought I would join the hop.....
Swimming is a great low-impact exercise for dogs of all ages. It's also a great one for hot weather when long walks and games of fetch may cause your dog to overheat. It works a lot of different muscle groups and provides an excellent aerobic workout. My dogs are much more tired after thirty minutes of swimming than after a two hour walk!
Things to consider if you want to let your dog swim.....
If they have never done it before, don't just toss them in the water and hope for the best. I've seen a lot of people do this and it's a good way to cause your dog to fear the water, not enjoy it! Let them wade a few times in the shallow water at the edge. Toss a floating toy out a short distance and encourage them to go get it. Some dogs take to swimming fairly naturally and some just never learn to like it. Don't force them to swim, it's supposed to be fun! I have never had to coax Wilson and Jimmy. Quite the opposite, I have to work at keeping them out when I don't have time for dirty dogs.
Remember, this is vigorous exercise, so start with very short sessions, building to longer ones as your dog becomes more accustomed to the rigors of swimming. Don't toss the toy or stick way out to the middle of the lake. Keep it closer to shore so it is easier for the dog to get back, especially as they begin to tire.
Another very important consideration is the water itself. You want to be sure it is a flowing source, not a stagnant pond. You want it to be clear and free from algae. Some varieties of algae are quite toxic to dogs, so if in doubt, do not let your dog swim in green soupy water!
The other hazard of standing water is the possibility of contracting Leptospirosis . This is not something you want your dog to have to go through so it is something to be familiar with. The bacteria for this is usually found in puddles and stagnant water, so once again be sure your dog swims in clear, flowing water.
Finally, when the swimming is all done, whether in a lake or stream, or for those of you lucky enough to have a swimming pool, be sure to thoroughly rinse your dog's coat. It will go a long way to eliminating a nasty wet dog smell, or in the case of a swimming pool, it will remove the pool chemicals that will be very harsh on the dog's fur.
Wilson and Jimmy LOVE swimming. It is probably their favorite activity. I wish I had a pool so they could keep swimming all summer. The lake near us becomes too shallow and soupy as the summer wears on and I don't let them go in it anymore.
Here are a couple more pictures from the lake this week......
How about your dogs? Do they like to swim or is it the worst thing you could ever ask them to do?
