Jimmy Jumps for Agility!

Once again, this is something I posted to FaceBook first, but for those of you who might have missed it......

The big Westminster Kennel Club show kicks off with an agility trial. This year Fox Sports network televised the whole competition. Jimmy had A LOT to say to those dogs about how they should be doing it! He watched the whole trial and was exhausted by the time it was over!

Be sure to turn down your speakers first!

Wilson has absolutely no idea what TV is and has never focused on the screen. That's too bad because I am sure I could have gotten a Wordless Wednesday out of it....Wild Wilson Watched Westmintster! But alas, it's not to be!

Big Win at Westminster!

Obviously, you all know my breed of choice is the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Well, this year the breed made history by WINNING the Herding Group at the big Westminster Kennel Club dog show in NYC. This is the first time a Cardigan has had the Group 1 honor. Yes, it's a very big deal!

Congratulations go out to Coco’s owners, Dina Planche, and breeder-owners,  Deb Shindle, Julie & Bill Divens.  Coco was beautifully handled by Lois DeMers. While I have no experience in the breed ring,  I can only imagine that the joy of this win is out of this world. What a high!

This is a fabulous moment for all of Cardi-dom! However, with this kind of exposure, comes an unwanted up-tick in the popularity of the breed. All of the sudden, people who never even knew Cardigans existed, are going to want one. If the chatter on Facebook is any indication, people have already started looking for puppies. Yikes!

So I am here to remind everyone, that a herding dog in general, and a Cardigan Welsh Corgi specifically is NOT a dog for everyone!

As far as Cardis go..they SHED A LOT ,they BARK, they are BOSSY, they need to be with their people, many have HIGH ENERGY and require LOTS of EXERCISE. If these points are OK with you, Cardigans are a wonderful dog! But don't go into it uneducated!

Cardigan breeders have also just had their job made a little bit more difficult. At least for the next couple of years, they will have to screen potential puppy buyers with a much stronger magnifying glass. They need to keep our beloved Cardis out of the puppy mills and the hands of careless backyard breeders.

Now to lighten my post's mood, and keeping in mind the winning Cardi's name is "Coco Posh", let me leave you with the ever-so-clever blog post title by fellow Cardi blogger Dawn: Westminster Goes Coo-Coo for Coco Posh . Man, I wish I had thought of that!
