What's-up With Wilson's Well-being on Wordy Wednesday?

I thought I would use this popular mid-week spot as an opportunity to update everyone on Wilson's health. As I reported back in September, Wilson's health is declining because of kidney disease. Unfortunately from the initial diagnosis to the next blood test a week ago, his kidney values got significantly worse. His appetite is very poor and my sweet boy isn't drinking enough water to keep up with what his ailing kidneys need. We have had to help by adding in subcutaneous fluids. Chronic kidney failure is an emotional and wellness roller coaster ride. Some days are definitely better than others. Wilson still likes his walks, but sleeps very hard afterwards. It's very odd to have a corgi around the house with zero interest in begging for food. My heart is very heavy most days. Jimmy definitely feels that the household vibe is off. He's also a bit jealous of all the food we offer Wilson in hopes of piquing his interest.

We try to get in plenty of quality time now, being so conscious of Wilson's hourglass, and I am taking more pictures than usual......Here are a few of my beautiful boy:

Taken last night as we waited for trick or treating to begin, the sun was setting and it reflected in a neighbor's window and gave Wilson a beautiful back light.

Backyard gazing....Wilson is still doing his best to be a guard dog!

I interrupted a moment of brotherly love and support. They were both kind of irritated.

And this is what goes on most of the time.....it's adorable and sad all at the same time....

We all know the price we pay for loving a dog, and it's a very steep one. But so totally worth it!

  1. He is such a beautiful boy! I am so sorry he is struggling, but I am so glad you are embracing the time you have left together!

Have you tried adding bone broth to his water? I don't know if that is veterinarian approved but I know it has helped hydrate my pups when they aren't interested in water alone.

  5. It is a heartbreaking process. But I am happy you have this hiatus between jobs to be home full-time. It makes a difference, I've found.

  8. He does look fabulous in your backlit photo. I'm so sorry that you and he are having a rough time. I hope that those subcutaneous fluids help. We've had to do them for our dogs in the past - and they gave the dogs a burst of energy.
