What's on Your To-do List?



So we are all on the verge of our next set of New Year's Resolutions...

I definitely don't make a long list as that just sets me up for failure. I usually pick one thing and see how it goes. Last year I vowed to improve my eating choices and as part of that drop all sodas from my diet. That wasn't too difficult as I'm not a big soda drinker but I did like a Diet Coke as a pick-me-up fairly often. I wasn't 100% successful with the sodas, I think I may have had 2 Diet Cokes in 2013. And I remember an adult beverage that used Ginger Ale as a mixer. As to the improved eating, I did a very good job with that. I went on a smoothie craze and incorporated many more fruits and veggies into my diet. I also eliminated most processed foods, junk foods, and sugary stuff (well, except for chocolate. One can only sacrifice so much!). I don't like fast foods so I didn't need to stay away from Burger King or McD's as I already avoided them. I can genuinely say I felt SO much better with improved nutrition! More energy, less aches and pains, I don't think I even had a headache in 2013, no colds or flu, and without even trying I lost about 15 pounds!.....I will continue all those diet changes, they were totally worth it!

Now, for 2014, I have a much less fun resolution, but worthwhile nonetheless. The company I work for has challenged everyone to reach a certain level of professional certification that goes along with your job title. For me, this is going to mean passing three Microsoft exams related to my job. It will require A LOT of tedious studying and memorization, but in the end improves my job security. In this day and age, you can't have enough of that! So I resolve to study for and pass these exams!

  1. We don't even make resolutions anymore.....just go with the flow. Sounds like your changes last year WORKED! Stick to it!

  3. Wells, you now make Ma feel like a slacker! Shoot, well, let's see...MY resolution is not to pull Ma's pants down in 2014. Ma's resolution is not to have any resolutions!!! BOL
    Okays, not really. Hers is to try and get rid of any unused and needless junk around the house. It's amazin' how much crap you accumulate, okays, MA accumulates! Time to let things go!
    That's it!

  6. Eeek studying, I did the same a few years ago and it was a bit of a nightmare as I took 30 credits in 1 year, but its a good resoltution. I usually dont really make a resolution but this year I am trying to be more like my dogs and really less but enjoy more. I am a chronic worrier particularly in regards to my husband and my dogs

  10. Although I also don't eat many processed foods, I've thought I'd try making one new food item each month that I usually buy pre-made. For example, bread. And salsa. And soaking and cooking my own beans instead of using canned.

    I hope my results are as good as yours.

  12. Happy New Year. I gave up soda a couple years ago. I was a hard core diet Coke drinker. It wasn't as hard as I thought. I have one occasionally but considering how much I used to drink, this was a huge victory. But I typically try not to make any resolutions. Instead I usually ask the universe to make this year better than the last.

  13. I love that cartoon. Last year I resolved to lose weight. Lost 20 pounds, which put me at my ideal. I've gained 5 of that back within the past two months... understandable with all the holiday food. Only two sodas? I'd consider that a win for your resolution. My problem is giving up coffee. I'm up to 4 cups a day where I used to only drink 1 or 2.

  14. I don't make resolutions because I never keep them. Well done you on cutting out so much bad food and losing weight. That is something I would definitely like to do too but whether I ever will is up to me. Good luck with your studying, it sounds pretty intense. I hope your knee is healing well and you and Jimmy are soon hooning around agility courses again :)

  16. Wow, good job on eliminating all the processed, junky foods. Your 2013 resolution is my 2014 resolution. It's also been my resolution for the past 5 years ;)

    Good luck on those Microsoft tests. More education and certification never hurt anybody.

  18. Wow - lost 15 lbs without really trying! That's great. Funny - I'm not a soda drinker, but I forget that you have to count the ones that go with "adult beverages." I'm a fan of cocktails that include ginger beer (Moscow Mules, etc.). Hmmmph. Good luck with your tests. Job security is always a good thing!

  20. I so need to get more fruits and veggies into my diet, I love my fruits and veggies a lot, so it shouldn't be too hard to eat more of what I love, right? One can only hope, haha.
