Adding Insult to Injury!

Wilson wanted to me to thank everyone for all the well-wishes you sent to him. He is sure all the good karma will speed him down the road to recovery!

So, after examining Wilson yesterday, watching his limp, poking and prodding, the vet felt it was not a bone issue, but a muscle injury. Based on this, she opted not to do X-rays. That's good for Wilson since it meant he didn't need to be knocked out. It appears to be a bicep injury and is quite painful. There's no real way to know the extent of the damage so for now Wilson will be on Metacam to reduce inflammation and a muscle relaxer to help ease spasms and pain. Of course, it also means nothing but short potty walks, no steps, no getting on/off the sofa/bed....By the time Wilson is all better, I'll be needing the Metacam and muscle relaxers for my back. Wilson weighs 40 pounds which doesn't sound like that much but carrying him up/down steps takes its toll on your back!

Oh, and to explain today's title....Not only is Wilson restricted to doing next to nothing, but now I've cut back on the size of his meals! So he's sore, bored...and now HUNGRY! In a corgi's mind, that may well be worse than pain!

  1. Awwww - poor Wilson! And your poor back! I feel for ya. Although by the end of his recuperation - you'll have excellent upper body strength! :)

Wilson, Blueberry has offered to mail you a portion of her food. ;)

  2. I know first hand that a HUNGRY Corgis are not happy campers!! They LOVE to eat and don't understand when they can't. I also know first hand of having to heave a 40 pounder around ... my old Tri Corgi, Mia, had DM and the last 2 years of her life were spent being carted up and down our steps. Not fun on ones back!! Remember ... lift with your legs so you don't get on the injured list either. Sending Wilson healing prayers for a fast recovery!

  12. Poor Wilson. It doesn't sound like he's having a good time. I hope there's lots of treats waiting for him when he gets better and is able to run off all those calories!

  14. Taryn,
I went through a similar experience 2 years ago. My cardigan had hernia repair and I injured my back while carrying her up an down the outside stairs (and she only weighed about 26 pounds). When the hernia repair required a "redo" I asked my husband if he could build some wooden ramps to cover the 2 sets of outside stairs. We covered these ramps that had slats every 10 inches or so with inexpensive indoor/outdoor carpet. This really saved my back and resulted in a successful hernia repair AND the ability for my other 13 yr old Cardigan to make it up the stairs again. Highly recommend something like this if you have a handy person around the house.

  16. Poor poor Wilson! Bored and hungry is not a fun combination. But in this case, it is what's best.
