What's Wrong with My Yard? / And a Jimmy Update

I'll start with an update on Jimmy. First let me say thank you for the well wishes you all sent. It means a lot! As I mentioned in yesterday's post, as soon as I made the appointment Jimmy started acting brighter. Of course! He gets quite scared going in to the vet's office so he had his adrenaline pumping. The vet gave him a thorough exam, poking/prodding, moving things around looking for a pain response. Nothing. The usual neurological reflex tests to the hind legs/feet all came back as they should. He felt Jimmy's gait in the rear looked a bit stilted. His recommendation was to take a conservative approach and just go with restricted activity and rest for the next 10 days or so. No medications or x-rays. Jimmy did get a cold laser treatment while he was there and we will do a couple more over the course of the next few days. So basically, wait and see. This morning he is quite perky and seems pretty much normal. Now the trick will be to keep him calm on less exercise! He's enjoying a marrow bone as I write this :-)

  3. I heard a tablespoon of tomato juice given to the dog will help those brown spots!

Glad Jimmy is doing better - let's hope just a little rest is all he needs!

  5. I just read yesterday's post too! So sorry to hear Jimmy hurt his back, but I'm glad he's doing better today! I think it's excellent news that he's already so much better without medication. I've read great things about cold laser therapy. I wish someone near us offered it.

Those brown spots look familiar! I discovered a while back that Wrigs had been lifting his leg on the corner of our house (outside, thankfully). :-D

    1. P.S. Wrigs invariably looks much better once we get to the vet's office, which is why I've gotten into the habit of trying to videotape episodes of gait abnormalities whenever possible.

  7. Ugh. I'm glad he's doing better, and certainly hope it's truly a temporary strain. Stay quiet, Jimmy, OK?? And quit peeing on the chair legs!

  8. I am the smartest person I know!!! Lol;-)

And the thing with your grass is normal,it has happened to my as well. It's because of the chairs sitting on top of the grass. Which makes it die.

    Hope this helps!

  9. Glad there is nothing major wrong with Jimmy and I hope the resting helps. Frankie hurt himself badly enough for me to get him X-rayed a couple of years ago. They couldn't find anything wrong, recommended keeping him quiet for 6 weeks I think it was. A very long 6 weeks! No improvement so I just went back to normal exercise and his limp came right overnight a couple of months later, lol!

I've got lots of those brown spots on my lawn too, but having a female as well as a male they're randomly dotted everywhere :)

  10. I'm so glad that Jimmy is starting to feel better! When R is on restricted activity, we feed him all his meals out of kongs or other interactive toys. It helps (a little). I hope that Jimmy is sleepy and can snooze a lot for the next 10 days!

We don't have a grassy yard so I was not "intelligent" about your brown spots. I laughed when I saw your explanation!

  11. The grass...bwahaahaa! Looks like some pups are letting everyone know who really owns those chairs!

Glad Jimmy is starting to heal....now keeping him quiet...that's the next big challenge.

  16. Those dogs... they always act fine right after we take them to the vet and then we look like overly worried pet parents. Glad to hear that he's doing just fine though.

I have that problem with my backyard too. And lots of poop.

  17. My husband is a people doc. He is a great believer in the "tincture of time". It seems like it also works for our furry friends.

  20. So glad to hear that Jimmy is doing well. :) The pee spots - I seriously thought you were losing your mental faculties when you asked what was going on with the lawn!

I hear that elk antlers make a GREAT long term diversion for dogs. I probably shouldn't say that out loud, since Jones doesn't carry them. But it's supposed to be true.
