I'm not talking about the green leaves, I am talking about all that string. This plant grows piles and piles of yellow string. I've taken to calling it the Pasta Plant. I'm guessing it would classify as Angel Hair pasta as the strands are quite slim.
Here's a close-up...........
All it needs is a bit of Marinara Sauce, and I've got lunch! |
Does anyone know what kind of plant this is?
A quick Google search (good old Google!) revealed that it's probably Cuscuta (dodder). You can find more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuscuta or here: http://jacksonville.com/entertainment/home-and-garden/2012-06-09/story/garden-column-beware-garden-silly-string. Looks like Jimmy is happy to use it for shade, whatever it is!

Yes, it definitely looks like you found the right info! Sounds like it is quite the pest...so instead of calling it a Pasta Plant, maybe I should call it a Pesta Plant! LOL!

Mmmm. Pesto ...
ReplyDeleteYep, add me to the hungry crowd. Have the makings for pesto pasta... thanks for helping figure out the dinner plan for tonight!
ReplyDeleteI can send you some of Ma's homemade pasta sauce for that strange plant!
ReplyDeleteThat would be pretty cool if there actually was a pasta plant! You could say things like "I'm going out in my garden now to harvest some pasta and tomatoes for tonight's dinner."!
ReplyDeleteWow that looks like a odd plant! I wonder what is it! Looks kinda like sprouts or something! Make shure not to eat it, it looks dangerous!

Too dry here for those kinds of plants. But they look like they could snag a collar.
