Here on the east coast, with an epicenter in Mineral, Va, we experienced a 5.9 earthquake! I am sure Californians will just smile knowingly, but it was FREAKY! I was at work, on the 9th floor. The building started to vibrate, building to quite a big rattle! You could really feel the sway! Earthquakes do happen here, about once every 20 years it seems, but this one was definitely a biggy (for east-coasters). We evacuated the building and stood around outside on a very lovely summer day. After about 20 minutes they let us back in, and promptly sent us home. They knew no more work would be accomplished this day :-) Of course every other company around did the same, so there was a huge traffic jam at 2:30 pm.
It scared poor Jimmy like a thunder storm would!
So, how about you? Did you feel the earthquake?
I felt it! I felt it! No wait. Maybe I didn't feel that one...but we feel so many out here in California! Seriously, an earthquake that big would startle us jaded Californians--I'm not surprised you described it as freaky. Erika called with the news -- and she thought she was done with eathquakes when she moved to Virginia from the earthquake capital Bay area!
ReplyDeleteI felt it, but only for about 10 seconds! Nice that you were sent home and glad everyone is ok!
ReplyDeleteI definitely felt it - my office is about 30 miles from the epicenter. The boyz were spooked when I got home last night and stuck to all of us like Velcro all night!
