What Joint Supplement Do You Use?

I've just used up the last of the joint supplement I've been using for the boys. It's Longevity, by a company called Springtime . I've been pleased with the company and their products so I won't necessarily switch. I just thought now was a good time to hear opinions on other products. Having an achondroplastic breed, I start supplementing early on in hopes of keeping their joints and connective tissues healthier.

So what supplement do you use? What results did you notice?

  1. I use Immune One Joint Mobility for Bug.

I have tried a whole slew of joint supplements. There is an ingredient in many of the supplements we have tried (Glyco Flex, Cosequin, K9 Liquid Health) that disagrees with Bug's GI system. Not sure what.

Immune One Joint Mobility agrees with Bug's system and he has made a nice recovery from his injury. I do also give him Ligaplex II (Standard Process) and Duralactin given the soft tissue injury.

  2. I do not feed a joint suppliment specifically, but I do feed Winnie a multivitamin. (She's not even 2 yet. I recently did some research for myself on human multivitamins and the nut-shell version is that GNC makes the most absorbable suppliment for the price. To do better you'd need to spend a TON. Which I can't. So I don't. Anyway, they just came out with a line of Pet suppliment and I switch Winnie to this brand. As far as results go, I honestly didn't see a ton but like I said... she's not even 2. I hope this just keeps her healthy for longer. :-) Check them out at this link:

  3. I've fed joint supplements off and on over the years. I've used the Springtime supplement you mentioned, as well as Glycoflex and Cosequin and never really noticed a huge difference. With the age of my dogs, right now I add Salmon oil to their food for its anti-inflammatory properties. Sam is to the point now where he the anti-inflammatories and pain meds for arthritis more than joint support.

  4. I used to give myself and my cattle dog a glucosamine tablet from Costco everyday (well, he probably got half a tab) but now I am moving on to:

The Greyhound Gang is a business owned by a lady who rescues and rehabs retired racing greyhounds. We have one ourselves and along with our new Cardi, Cotton, will be helping the hounds by buying GetUp and Go products. They are human grade and are made for the pounding that greyhounds joints take in everyday life and training/racing. The cost is MUCH lower because the gal who sells them fills the bottles, puts the labels on, etc....not a huge company. Complete analysis is available.

  5. I also use Longevity but I've added a couple other things too. They all get Boswellia, Fish Oil tabs and the old boy gets Flexamin(triple strenght), I saw a big difference in Beli when I started Boswellia. All of mine have been doing really well overall on these, knock on wood!:-)

  6. I would ask the vet. Foods and stuff like that won't be as strong as medications that your vet recommends.

  7. I use Recovery SA. I notice a big difference with Wicca- she seems more limber all around, and doesn't get as stiff. I also give Salmon Oil.

  8. I use Cosequin and Welactin. The Welactin (Omega 3) especially seemed to help Denzil's comfort. I use it on the other dogs as a preventive.

  9. I am always looking for more info on joint supplements.
We currently are using Glyco Flex chews for both the Newfs, although they are both young I also like to start them on these early.
I have not heard of the supplement you are using and I look forward to looking at it further.

  10. I am a big fan of springtime. I've seen miracles with what Fresh Factors has done on old, arthritic dogs and I give all my dogs a fresh factor every day. I also feed their bug off garlic chewables.

  11. I've actually used the PetSmart store brand 21st Century Glucosamine/Chondroitin tablets. I started giving them to Bart when he was about 9-10 years old and I was seeing slight stiffness in one of his front legs. Within three weeks the stiffness was gone. Over the years I saw his front and rear legs weaken as he aged. By the time he as 15-16 years old they were obviously weaker and he couldn't jump as he had when he was young. But as long as he got the G/C blend, he never had any more issues with stiffness in that leg. Obviously, he had some general stiffness when he was that old, but it really seemed to help him. He was almost 17 when we lost him.

Now that I feed fresh foods, I have been using Berte's Daily Blend and supplements from B-Naturals. My dogs are age 12, age 7 and age 2. For different reasons they all get Glucosamine/Chondroitin. I gave it to Sage as a young dog which is good while their bones are developing.

  12. Hi,

We also get their glucosamine product, Fresh Factors, the Omega oil and all of us that show get Bee Pollen. My PA thinks it must work as she just got back from a show were Glacier, who is 12, showed in veterns class and both judges said he was an awesome mover.
