Snow Swimming

Our big blizzard has melted for the most part. We are just down to those huge dirty piles left everywhere by the snowplows. Looking back over all the photos, I pulled this head shot of Wilson out of a bigger overall picture. Here he had decided to cut his own path across our snow maze, hoping to beat Jimmy to one of the prizes. Of course he didn't take into consideration all the resistance the snow would create, and Jimmy beat him by using the trails. I thought this picture looked a bit like he was swimming through the snow, his head thrown up the way he does when he's bringing back a stick out of the lake.

Knowing how rare a deep snow is in Northern Virginia, it will be a very long time before I get more pictures like this one!

A Cardigan Christmas

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

The boys get pretty excited about opening packages. We can't put out the gifts until just before opening or else alot of paper gets ripped up prematurely! Here are a few shots of the boys enjoying the day:

Here they are the day after, inspecting their haul.

Yes!!! Even More Snow Pictures!

If you can stand it, here are yet more photos from our Winter Wonderland....

Jimmy getting in a little snow tasting......Or is he giving a raspberry to the whole snowy mess?

Jimmy again, up to his eyeballs in snow. He had bounded off into deep snow and was now awaiting rescue.......

Wilson smartly stayed to the established trails.

And here we have a snow-crazed abominable snowman darting back toward the deck.

Just a view looking toward the gate to my backyard.....

And finally, this is the vent for my gas fireplace. I don't think anyone needs to take the "HOT" warning too seriously based on what I see here!

Snow Maze

Our house is situated on a court of five houses that are fanned out around a center island of grass. John had the fun idea of building a snow maze on the island and then hiding food here and there that the dogs would need to search out. We play "Find It" in the house all the time so it didn't take much for them to catch on.

Here's the overall scene, with our neighbor's dog playing too.

The food was placed up on the edges of the snow walls so the scent would spread as well as the food would not get trampled too much.

Jimmy taking a break....Solving a maze is tough work!

Wilson striking a pose.......

John trying to give some pointers to Wilson......

More searching by Wilson.........

Jimmy on the prowl.........

Both boys still searching. It's hard to give up on hotdog pieces!

And here is Jimmy having a successful gulp, albeit a rather snowy bite of hotdog.

Houston, We have a Problem.......

There's no where to poop!!! The boys need grass under their feet to make things happen so to speak. There is none to be found. Everywhere is covered in snow. They searched, but were unsuccessful, poor boys. I guess desperation will eventually win out.......

Snow Photos - Round Two

Well, it snowed for about 24 hours straight! We ended up with about two feet of snow! That is extremely rare in these parts, like once a decade. From my walk-about this morning......

The next door neighbor's Mini Cooper....

This is a dish-like waterer for the birds.......

Looking into my court from the main street.

Part of my back gate, piled high!

A very pretty tree..............

My back yard where it will be quite a while before any Cardis will get to romp!
