We've had some less than wonderful weather in the month of Febbruary. We had all the remnants of
the big snow to deal with, then lots of rain, followed by
MUD, lots of mud. This means Jimmy and Wilson have had shorter walks and absolutely zero backyard time. You've seen lots of photos of them sleeping or lying in the dog bed lately! After a while, cabin fever sets in and they just have to do
something! So when it gets that bad, I take them up to the large local pet store. There is aisle after aisle of food bags to stiff, lots of other dog smells, an occasional rescue cat to bark at, and, of course, that long aisle of unprotected dog treats! Sort of like the grocery story where they put the candy down low in the check-out area so little kids will grab some and moms will give in, pet stores seem to put their loose treats right down where dogs will grab one on the way down the aisle!
We made a couple of loops around the store and up near the cash register, the check-out girls started fawning over Jimmy and Wilson. Not wanting to miss an opportunity, Wilson used the distraction to dart over to the nearest treat bin and grab something.
Now in a store full of pig ears and bully sticks and raw hides (something the boys will
never ever get to eat!), this is what Wilson grabs.......

WTF? A gator-shaped "greenie"..... |
It looked to be something similar to a dental Greenie but some other brand. I am not at all a fan of Greenies and quickly grabbed it away from Wilson. It was definitely a size and shape he would swallow whole. Not gonna happen! I apologized to the clerks and said I would pay for it. I certainly didn't want my dog arrested for shoplifting?! (
The store was very nice and let me have it for free!)
Maybe Wilson was just keeping up with February being Dental Month? But he really should have pilfered something else....something I would actually let him eat!
How about your dogs? Have they ever been caught shoplifting?
Out fantastic groomer, Doreen, at Muddy Paw Canine Center in VT, would open the door from the grooming shop to the "dog store" below and encourage our girl dog to "Go shopping!" after she was groomed! Our dog Rags also helped himself (on more than one occasion!) to some delicious beef chews as I was busy paying for grooming--and I didn't notice until I was helping him into the car.
ReplyDeleteOur good friend Miss Charlee lives in Florida by the Everglades, where they're much more worried about the gators eating the doggies, rather than the other way around! haha!

ReplyDeleteThere are WANTED posters of my dogs in every pet store in town
ReplyDeleteYes...but it was a pigs' ear. And they are right on DOG LEVEL.
ReplyDeleteIt's kinda cute!
ReplyDeleteLOl! That's too funny! I've seen those at the store but the girls have never been interested in them! Also, I feel for you on the mud situation. We are having the same problem here!
ReplyDeleteHe really wanted that gator, oh yes my guys would help their selves to stuff also.
ReplyDeleteThey want east they can't have mine are the same wanting venues and such
ReplyDeleteThose are what Porter always goes for too!
ReplyDeleteMy two are too crazy to take into the store, but Delilah will in fact help herself to almost anything within her reach.
ReplyDeleteWe are with you, I don't feed greenies. Delilah also has a tendency to swallow things whole.
I'm not quite sure WHY pet stores put their treats so low, it seems like they are just asking for trouble.
