Monday Mischief: I Can't Trust My Memory!

The other evening after dinner, I was walking the boys around the block. It was pretty warm out and they were moving slowly. My mind always goes in a hundred different directions while we take these strolls. I thought about my job search, agility, why doesn't that house ever mow their yard?, etc. One of the thoughts that popped in was that after feeding the boys their dinner, I had forgotten to get their breakfast out to thaw. It is very easy to forget to do that and then morning comes along and we have a frozen solid lump of meat. So there I am, out for a walk, remembering I need to thaw the next meal,  with no way to write myself a note. I didn't have my cell phone either so I couldn't set an alarm or type a reminder either. Knowing myself, it was almost certain I would forget again before I got home (darn those middle age brains!).

So how does one set up a reminder in this situation? I thought about the old "tie a string around your finger" trick......

But alas, I didn't have any string with me either. Why would I?.......Then it occurred to me!

I have plenty of poop bags (clean empty ones, of course!) tucked into my pockets.......

It did the trick! When I got home, I ran downstairs to the freezer and got the food out to thaw!

  1. How clever!

I hear that walking through a door causes us to forgot what we were thinking about on the other side. Are you saying that a poop bag reminder counteracts that brain mojo?

  2. That was very clever. I'm always forgetting stuff but have never tied a poop bag around my hand ... LOL!! Very resourceful. And I'm sure the boys are glad you didn't forget.

  6. Great idea!!!! Seriously. I have that brain problem too although I usually think of things while I'm on my bike ride and they are gone by the time I get home.

And what a fashion statement ;)

  7. Ha! That's a fantastic idea! I'm just like you when we are out for a walk-my mind wanders everywhere and then by the time I get home I forget it all! It must be all that fresh air!

  8. You get MEAT for breakfast? We only get it at night....so there's a bit of leeway when SHE forgets. Poo bags are handy for all kinds of things!

  10. So clever! I'm often forced to use a mnemonic device--for me, it's an alliteration. Something like "Most important (on our return)= Meat, or When it open the Door"--I need to Do (this). Can't really think of a good one here :)

  11. I love it! Ingenuity at it's best! I constantly do this, but what I've found works in emergencies? I put the food on a Teflon pan. If you heat up a cup of water, then put the water and the Teflon pan in the microwave (I use the microwave because it is small and typically not as cold as the regular oven) the food usually defrosts in an hour or so. I've also place it in plastic bags and set it in cold water, but that's not usually as quick.
