FitDog Friday: How to burn off energy on a hot and humid day

My corgis hate hot weather. They really prefer to stay indoors when it's over 80 degrees and there is any humidity at all. This can make getting in enough activity a challenge as the Washington, DC area is notoriously steamy this time of year. Fortunately, the boys are more than willing to play fetch in our chilly basement. While it doesn't make up for an hour long walk, it does take the edge off.

Here they are playing fetch. Well, Wilson plays fetch, and Jimmy does his best to get in the way. Be sure to mute your speakers as there is lots of barking and my loud voice much too close to the camera!

Have a great weekend, Everyone! Enjoy that extra day!

  1. Reggie is not a fan of our hot August. He lays down every few yards on any walk that he considers too warm. So the indoor games are going on here, too. Football fetch and a little game of chase the length of the master bdrm. Can't wait for cooler weather so we can get this wild boy back outside!

  2. We have had a really cool/cloudy summer at our house - until today! Rita hates super hot weather, so we are going to try to keep her entertained in the house today. Unfortunately, she's not much for fetch, but will play for a few minutes. So far we've done some training, and played with the puzzle toy. Guess we'll try a little game of fetch now!

  3. OH, the momz used to live in DC and knows only too well those ugly hot and humid August days...stay inside! On days like that, you do what you can in the AIR-CONDITIONING! Looks like they were having a great time. Thanks for joining the Hop.

  4. Good idea! It's always good to have some "alternates" when the weather isn't conducive to outdoor exercise! Thanks for the post!

  5. I wish I could train Gretel to bring her squakie toy back to me. And I did turn the sound on for a minute. It gets louder at my house before dinner time :)

  6. SHE grew up in the DC area and remembers that humidity...and gnats. We only have heat here--dry heat.

  10. Mr. N isn't a fan of the heat either. Have you tried a cooling vest? We have one and it helps cool him down enough so that we can still walk.

  11. On very rainy days we do the same but we throw the ball upstairs. Have a super Saturday.

  13. What a fun way to burn some energy without going out in the heat. I grew up fairly near that area, and I remember that steamy heat! Not my favorite thing... It's wonderful to see your pair so happy!

  14. Adorable video! Joker is the same too, when it is too hot outside he just naps all day. Just a few clicker sessions is enough to tire him out! :)
