We checked in, and we are told to take the hallway to right, then down the stairs to our room in the section reserved for guests with pets. We planned on taking the boys to the room first before unloading the car. We head on down that hallway....(Here is where I mention that I am an avid reader, and have enjoyed many of Stephen King's stories....Can you see where this is going?)
Redrum! |
Just the second I see this hallway, it brings back book-to-movie memories, and I blurt out "Redrum!" I blame it on six hours in the car....
But the real kicker comes later when I take the boys out to the back of the hotel for a walk and find this....
You'd better run! |
Keeping their eyes peeled in both directions! |
There is a roughly hewn maze cut into a large section of wild and overgrown vegetation. It winds this way and that, including forks to choose, and if you follow it far enough, it leads you into the deep forest.
This third similarity to a book setting had me giggling when I returned to the room. Fortunately, our stay was much more pleasant than the one in the book/movie and much warmer, too!
Does anyone know where my imagination took me when I saw this hotel and its grounds?
OMD Redrum indeed. Hope there were not any handy axes around. LOL. Have a marvellous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
That is a beautiful place! And I love your new header.

The Shining is still one of the scariest movies to me!
ReplyDeleteI vividly remember that movie (The Shining), even though the last time I saw it was when it first came out, in theaters.

ReplyDeleteI vividly remember that movie (The Shining), even though I haven't seen it since it came out in the theaters. PS Did you have any problems in the shower?:)
ReplyDeleteI never saw the movie, but I did recently read the book. No giant animal topiaries, huh? That actually looks like a lovely hotel, but yes ... scary!
ReplyDeleteNo idea about the movie, but the Hotel looks nice...did the boys enjoy their stay?
ReplyDeleteThe Shining!
ReplyDeleteNow is where I admit to having never seen the movie or read the book. But, I think its a pretty good guess...
The shining of course I'm a horror fan and like the book and movie but it does look spooky glad u had a good time

Three similarities? 1. The hallway. 2. The labyrinth. 3? Kid on a tricycle?
ReplyDeleteLong time since I saw The Shining was in the mid-1980s. Too creepy to revisit.
Ahahahaha!!! I honestly think I would have went somewhere else - too creepy!! I not only read the book (more than once cause I am sick that way) but I also saw the movie. Scarred for life? You betcha!
ReplyDeleteThat hallway is the creepiest!! Love this post!
We don't read/watch Stephen King, so we think it looks like a great place.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
SHE had to even turn off the ads for 'The Shining', too creepy. We only know it was the shining because of the other comments.
Hahahaha! Did the twins come out of hiding too? I'm glad to hear that you and the pups came out of the hotel stay alive and well! (PS. Your post was based on The Shining. Here's Johnny!)
ReplyDeleteI thought exactly the same when I saw that hallway...and then a maze! Get out of there before Nicholson shows up!
ReplyDeleteWow! You are soooooo lucky you brought 2 dogs with you!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely spot, though! Hope you enjoyed!
Redrum! Good thing it wasn't snowing outside and you weren't being chased by your psycho father! Cool place!!
ReplyDeletewow these photos is just awesome ! its like those calendars ! what a beautiful place !!!
ReplyDeleteWoof all the way from Phnom penh Cambodia
What fun! I'm not sure I'd sleep well once I'd seen all the similarities to The Shining. Glad you had a pleasant stay!

I was reading the Wikipedia article on the movie, and it mentioned that the camera following the tricycle was on a specially modified, low-to-the-ground steadicam. Very cool that you put your camera down at that level.
ReplyDeleteI can hear the eerie little voice saying "redrum" ... I may have turned around and ran out ... LOL!! I haven't watched many horror movies or read the book but that is one I have and it freaked me out!! Very beautiful place though.

OMG! That's so funny and weirdly scary! That is one of the freakiest movies EVER! What a hoot! And then to find a maze! Gorgeous grounds, though!
ReplyDeleteLOL...that would have reminded me of the same movie. It looks rather pleasant though.
ReplyDeleteWow! I would love a good getaway like that. Hope it was nice and not scary.
ReplyDeleteWow - that hallway, redrum indeed! ("Danny doesn't live here anymore, Mrs. Torrance.")
ReplyDeleteThat movie scared the heck out of me - especially because it had a different ending than the book!
(It actually looks quite lovely though...)
