An Intervention Might Be In Order

I've been on a health kick of sorts lately. For breakfast most days I make a Smoothie in the blender. I can pack just about a day's worth of vegetation into one meal! I start with organic carrot juice and almond milk as the base, add raw spinach and kale, of course a banana, and then usually berries of some sort or another. The final ingredient is plain greek yogurt. I like Fage brand. The color doesn't always turn out too appetizing but they always taste great!

Jimmy and Wilson got their first taste by licking the spoon I used to scoop the yogurt. They thought that was pretty tasty! A lot of times there would be just a tiny bit of Smoothie left in the blender after my glass was filled, so I'd pour a few drops into each of their dog bowls. They loved it! Soon they were sitting at my feet as I prepared the Smoothie, waiting for their share. Once I poured mine, the little groans and mumbles would start. Nose pokes followed, then more mumbling. Their patience would start to run low quite quickly!

Give us our Smoothie! Give us our Smoothie! Give us our Smoothie!

Wilson being fairly patient, but making sure the Smoothie doesn't get away!

Jimmy, making sure I get the hint, or maybe trying to levitate the pitcher.

Jimmy: Hey, do you think you could hurry up here?!

I'm not sure, but I think I might need to schedule an intervention. You know, get a few of the neighborhood dogs over, and confront them on this little problem they have. What do you think?

  1. I've been thinking about adding some smoothies to my routine lately too. The almond milk sounds like a great addition!

  5. Lucky pups! I have Fage almost every morning. Louie always got to lick the little paper liner covering the yogurt. A big treat! I think of him every day when I open up my yogurt.

    1. The coconut oil is a great idea! I've read how good it is for you, but couldn't think of how to use it. I am not much of a cook. I bought some yesterday....have to be careful though....TONS of calories!

  8. Charley likes spinach, so I don't think he'd be too much help in this area!

  9. Can you blame the two? The smoothie sounds delish! At least it's smoothies they're addicted to and not something else :)

  10. This reminds me of our angels Bailey and Abby. They both LOVED daddy's smoothies (the hubs makes very similar-sounding smoothies to yours on the weekends - we freeze the banana; makes it really creamy! We love to hide kale in there and also beets). The very first day we had Abby, the hubs made a huge smoothie as per usual on the weekend. He set the whole blender of it down on the end table in the living room and walked away (big mistake) and within about 3 seconds Abby had the blender full of purple smoothie upended on the beige living room carpet. What a mess! (Oxyclean to the rescue...) Rita is completely uninterested! She's such a nut.

When you read "What the Dog Ate" you'll see Maggie and Kona love smoothies too! :)

    1. I'll have to try the frozen banana trick....if I can remember to freeze it before I'm ready to make the smoothie!

  11. It always starts with a tiny bit of smoothie at the bottom of the pitcher. Then it progresses to half the pitcher and eventually Jimmy is holding Wilson's ears back while he's throwing up pitchers full of smoothie in the back yard. You best stop it now before this gets to be a huge problem.

  13. That's one way to make sure your doggies get their fruit and veg! Such a good habit to get into. You've inspired me to get our smoothie maker out- defo going to try one with almond milk! Xxx

  14. That sounds so healthy and delicious! I'm not surprised the boys love it too. I make fruit smoothies for Wrigs and he really loves them. I usually combine banana and whatever berries are available (usually blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries).
