Happy Halloween!

First, let it be known, I could post a Wilson's Wordless Wednesday today but alas it would not have had a Halloween theme. It just seems wrong to ignore Halloween so I'll just save my W'sWW for next week.

Without further's my Halloween line-up.....

The First Avenger!

The inspiration for this costume came from Jimmy's new Comfortflex harness. His old one was really getting dingy, so I decided it was time for a replacement. I buy mine from Clean Run  and they sell a special Stars and Stripes model that benefits the United States' Agility World Team. I also love to watch all the Marvel comic inspired movies like Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, etc., so I started calling Jimmy 'Captain America' (aka The First Avenger) and things went from there!

This was my first attempt when all I had was the shield......

But then, much to Jimmy's dismay and horror.....I found the helmet at Walmart! And it got so much better, well, for me at least!

I had a lot of fun in Picmonkey giving these photos the old comic book feel. How do you think they turned out?

This year Wilson was spared the indignities of being dressed up but he definitely enjoyed seeing Jimmy suffer through it. I am pretty sure I heard him snickering a few times!

From Before Sandy Stole All of Our Leaves!

Well Hurricane Sandy has roared past my area in the DC suburbs. It was mainly just A LOT of rain and strong, gusty winds. Unfortunately, the areas north of here fared much worse. My thoughts/prayers go out to them.

Here are a few pictures from a few days past, when the fall leaves were in the last of their glory....

The full-frame version of my header photo

We took a motorcycle ride out to the Virginia countryside on Saturday. The leaves were definitely on their way out as far as color and what was still on the trees. But it was still a gorgeous ride on twisty country roads...

The Weekend Report - A Great Day and a New Title!

Today was another agility trial, this time held by the Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club in Westminster, Md. The courses were just  middle-of-the-road level of difficulty w/ only one worrisome area in each. The day started with Standard. It was tire, dogwalk straight into the middle of a tightly curved tunnel. Fortunately we got our contact and the correct end of the tunnel. A tight pinwheel that included a broad jump was next. You never see broad jumps in the Excellent level courses but this judge is known for throwing them in. We made it past that, through the weaves, and over the Aframe and right onto the table. Good boy, Jimmy! Next, a chute with a very easy off course near it, made it past!, then teeter, jump, tunnel and three jumps in the home stretch at odd angles. We made it through cleanly and I didn't remember until a few minutes after the run that that was the 10th and final leg for our MX (Master Agility) title. Woohoo! And just to add a little excitement, we tied for 2nd place. The other competitor was running three dogs and didn't really want to do a run-off to see who would get the faster time, so we opted for a coin toss. I won so Jimmy took 2nd!

Not too much later it was, of course, time for Jumpers with Weaves. There was only one spot where I was worried about being able to plant my front cross in time and the rest was just running fast! We finished a respectable 7th place. So, lo and behold, another double-Q was had! Between the two runs we also pulled in another 33 points.

I didn't feel like bugging anyone with video taping my runs so I am afraid there's nothing visual for this post that is agility related. So I'll just leave you with the nice seasonal photo I snapped on Saturday morning. Once the Frankenstorm, as the media is calling Hurricane Sandy, has moved through the area, I doubt there will be many leaves left to photograph.

The boys were on Defcon One Alert for deer, no time to look at the camera!

Tracking Jimmy's MACH progress:
Excellent B JWW legs: 24  Now he's working on his MXJ3!
Excellent B STD legs: 10 We earned our MX!
Double Q's: 8 (out of 20 double-Q's needed for a MACH.... 40 Percent!)
MACH Points: 499 (out of 750 speed points needed for a MACH...... 66 Percent!)

Time 2 Beat legs: 4 (out of 15 needed for his T2B) 32 points (out of 100 needed)

Can You See Him?

Can you find Wilson in this picture? He's there......Whenever we go out and leave the boys home, they immediately go to this window and wait. From there they can sit on the bed and watch for our return. It also gives them a great view of the surrounding area for squirrels, deer, pesky neighborhood kids on name it. It has also earned Wilson one of his nicknames: Stripe. That's because, sitting in the shadows of the room, the only thing that we can see from outside is Wilson's white blaze. Does anyone remember what 80's movie had a character named Stripe?

The City Slicker

As part of our trip to the apple orchard a couple of weeks back, we ran into these characters......

Burro: Hmmmm, Looky, Looky, What do I see? That city slicker has some big ears.......

Burro to his friend: Wanna have a little fun? Let's challenge that little doggie to an ear measuring contest! Whaddya say?

Quick! Drop your ears down, he'll never suspect a thing! We'll take him for that bag of apples by his car!

While I have you all here, can I please get you to vote for Wilson to be in the CorgiPals calendar? Go here: CorgiPals Voting Page and see and vote for all the great pictures...Wilson is in the running for a February spot. Thank you!

Have a great weekend, Everyone!

On The Right Track!

Adjacent to the fieldhouse where the agility trial was this past weekend runs a train track. It runs through a small wooded area and with the pretty fall colors, I of course thought photo-op! I had my long lens on the camera so I didn't capture as much of the trees as I would have liked, but I do like all the leaves strewn on the tracks. The sun was shining in the first shot, but had ducked behind a few clouds for the last two. Funny how much that affects the warmth of the colors. It is an in-service track, so I definitely had my ears tuned in for an approaching train!

Since Jimmy did so well at the trial, I am going to use these photos as a visual metaphor for being back on the right track to our MACH!

The Weekend Report - We're Baaaaaccck!

Well, this past weekend was Jimmy's return to agility trialing after his mild iliopsoas strain in early July. And he came back with a vengeance! Unbelievably, we double-Q'ed both days! Holy Moly! On Saturday, he was speedy enough that both runs were in the ribbons, both 3rds. Sunday, although his actual Yards per Second were a tiny bit faster, lots of other dogs were faster too, so no ribbons. But to be honest, just the green Q ribbon is plenty fine for me! And Jimmy raked in a whopping 70 speed points as well!

Here are Saturday's runs:

Jumpers w/ Weaves:

And Sunday's:

Jumpers w/ Weaves:

And, because Wilson filled in for Jimmy at agility class over the summer, I figured he deserved some fun, too. I signed him up for just a Jumpers run. Although he had been running clean in class, his old trial stress surfaced immediately and he got rather goofy and sassed me. He definitely had some fun, too, and that's what it was all about.

Here he is:

Tracking Jimmy's MACH progress:
Excellent B JWW legs: 23 (out of 10 needed for his MXJ) Now he's working on his MXJ3!
Excellent B STD legs: 9 (out of 10 needed for his MX) Almost to our MX!
Double Q's: 7 (out of 20 double-Q's needed for a MACH.... 35 Percent!)
MACH Points: 466 (out of 750 speed points needed for a MACH...... 62 Percent!)

Time 2 Beat legs: 4 (out of 15 needed for his T2B) 32 points (out of 100 needed)

A New Breed of Dog?

 ......Welsh Apple Retrievers.....?

We headed up to the mountains last weekend for a picnic at our favorite apple orchard. Although the trees were pretty well bare of fruit, plenty of fallen apples still lay on the ground. The boys had a grand time chasing, retrieving, and, yes, eating lots of apples.

Here they are taking a break from running in the hilly terrain. You definitely learn you aren't as fit as you like to think you are when you hike around these steep hills.....

Going downhill is a whole lot easier!

With the trees empty of apples, we got to enjoy the orchard pretty much to ourselves. The majority of the folks were down by the barns buying pumpkins, caramel apples, and cider. We always bring a picnic.....

A bucket of chicken really brings out the beggars!

Just one bite! Pretty please!

And finally, after a big lunch and a couple glasses of wine, this is what happens......

Jimmy kept watch to ensure his favorite human was safe from any rogue squirrels.

Have a great weekend, Everyone!

Another Bale-Out?!

Of course, Jimmy had his chance to ride a giant roll of hay, too. These photos were taken out at Long Branch Farm a couple of weeks back. We went there to watch the Chesapeake Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club's Specialty and have lunch with fellow club members. It was a fun day in the country, although the fall colors had yet to emerge.

Thanks for the Laugh, Gmail!

As I am sure most of you are aware, sites like Gmail/Google, Yahoo, and Facebook all collect information about what you search for and what you buy on the internet. They use this data to tailor the ads they display to you while you are on their websites. Targeted marketing as it's called......

So yesterday, as I do many times a day, I logged into my Gmail account. Here's what I saw for an advertisement targeted at me......Click to enlarge so you can read the first line of blue print to the right of the Compose button.

Let's see.... What's Your Jimmy Worth? Well, he's priceless, of course! Free online valuation. Fast Payment Sell Your Jimmy Fast, Safe, Fair ......But I don't want to sell my Jimmy even if it is fast and safe!

Now I know they are referring to a GMC Jimmy truck, but with the ad written as it is, it really gave me a good laugh! And of course, in it's own way, it's a bit appropriate given that I posed Jimmy with the plastic nameplate from a Jimmy truck.

So just be warned! Be careful where you go and what you look for on the internet, because someone is always watching! They might just try to sell your Jimmy!

Last But Not Least

The day has finally come. I have whittled away at my beach pictures and today will be my last Myrtle Beach post......well, until we go back for another visit this is....

So for today I have some posed shots. Jimmy really dislikes looking into the camera if he's by himself, but with Wilson at his side, he is much more cooperative.

This picture is out on the front sidewalk of our condo building. The building is white stucco and the early morning light is bouncing back into the boys' faces. It's not easy to get Jimmy's black face, so I liked this one for the quality/brightness of the light.

Down on the beach now, I seriously (and unintentionally) over-exposed this next shot. But, using the camera software, I was able to bring back the boys from a washed-out state.......They are such good little posers!

And, as I often do, saving my favorite shot for last, here is another shot taken around the same time, but with better exposure. I just love the colorful beach combers in the background. This kind of shot really makes me appreciate my long lens! Click to enlarge....

And with that, I will finally move on to more seasonal fall photos, although so far, our tree colors have been a bit dull this year.

You Can't Reach Me!

Wilson and Jimmy were playing chase down on the beach. After a few zoomie loops, Wilson was done. Jimmy was being a bit too rough, biting, pulling Wilson's back legs, tugging Wilson's collar.......So he got a bright idea. He ran over to the empty life guard stand, put his front feet on the bottom rung, and waited until I came over and lifted him up.Such a smart boy! He got to take a nice relaxing break where Jimmy couldn't reach!

This Isn't Much of a Photo But.....

...It made me laugh and it reminds me of one of Jimmy's many nicknames....

At home, next to John's favorite TV chair is a dog bed. Both dogs vie for it, but when John is watching TV in that chair, Jimmy is sure to get the bed so he can be next to his favorite human. As part of sitting there, Jimmy demands that expects John to keep an arm over the side of the chair, touching him at all times. If John forgets (or his arm goes numb!), Jimmy pops straight up and pokes John's elbow to get the hand back. He will do it many times in a row until the hand returns. Yes, Jimmy can be a bossy little SOB......Anyway, this persistent hopping up and down earned Jimmy a nickname: in Pogo Stick .

When I saw this (somewhat out of focus) picture, I immediately thought of his Pogo nickname.....

How about your pups, any interesting nicknames?

What's Wilson Thinking....?

This picture just looks ripe for a caption! So what do you think is on Wilson's mind?

If I wasn't so darn comfy, that ball would be MINE!

Wish I Was There Right Now!

It's 46 degrees (7.7 C) this morning, cold and drizzly.......I really wish I was standing in front of this scene right now!

The Many Faces of Jim

Be sure to click to enlarge. You wouldn't want to miss any of Jimmy's many personalities!

OH! Wait! That's the wrong end! But (or is that Butt?), he can be an ass at times!

The first rays of the day created some interesting colors!

This is the reason I don't sleep late while we are at the beach. Sunrise from the balcony.

Have a Great Weekend, Everyone!
