Once in a Blue Moon - A GiveAway!

As you might know, tonight's full moon is called a Blue Moon . Those are rather rare and so I thought I would commemorate this event with another rarity: a GIVEAWAY on my blog! Since I am pretty much certain that everyone that visits here is a dog person, if not necessarily a Cardigan person, I am going to give away a $20 gift certificate to the White Dog Bone Company . They have an endless supply of dog products to choose from, so I am confident there would be something for any winner! The gift certificates are emailed to the recipient so all the winner will need to disclose to me is their email address.

Of course, I am not going to make it completely easy. There has to be a little catch, right? Jimmy said he would help out, so he posed with his name. What you have to do is tell me where I got his name you see in the photos....What is it from? (and of course I don't mean where I bought it, that would be impossible, but what product?) The Vacuumator!

The vacuums rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate dirt and dog hair has raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the doghouse. Nature's Cheetos?

We had a rainy weekend. It didn't make for much in the line of photo-ops, but I know the grass and trees were relieved to get a good drink of water.

As the summer wears on, all the weedy grasses have gone to seed. This means lots of them have sprouted their seed pods. There is a patch near us that is in full bloom, so to speak.

I don't know why, but they remind me of Cheetos. I guess I was hungry :-)  Here's a close-up.....

A Stroll Down Memory Lane....

It's funny how things can trigger an old memory, one that hasn't surfaced in a long time. I am a big fan of the sculptures that Barbie Sonnett creates. She was an amazing talent and luckily for the Corgi world, she directs her skills in our direction! I always keep an eye peeled to EBay to see her latest pieces. So when I saw this amusing little scene built around a lamp, I couldn't help but smile at the memories it conjured up.....

Back in the days when I had my sweet Cardi Dylan , I lived in a condo in Reston. We often ordered pizza for delivery. We would phone it in and then write out a check for the delivery person. Well, Mr. Dylan was just as big a fan of pizza as we were, and it didn't take him long to figure out the pattern.....Hear the word "Pizza", a phone call, a check and that meant something wonderful would be arriving at the front door! He would go position himself a few feet from the door and wait. His attention span would hold whether the pizza took 15 minutes to arrive or even an hour. He sat and waited and drooled. It got to the point where if we were just tossing around the idea, "Hey, you wanna order a Pizza?", he would go sit by the door....for a long time. And, heaven forbid, if we decided against getting one, convincing him to leave the door was tough! We eventually started talking in code when it came to discussing the topic. We shortened it to just "P"..."You wanna order a P?" Of course all dogs learn the key word "wanna", and figuring out what "P" meant was simple enough. So then we switched to "Pie"....He figured that one out, too! Never doubt how much your dog understands, especially when it involves a beloved food! We moved from Reston, and no longer got delivery pizzas at our new house (they always arrived cold!), but Dylan knew the word Pizza all his remaining days!

Many thanks to Barbie for reviving a fond memory. If that lamp had featured brindle Cardigans, it would very likely be sitting on a table in my house right now!

Wolfy Wilson Wasn't Wordless on Wordless Wednesday

Can't Reach!

It never fails! I eventually give a poor throw to Wilson's Chuck-It Flying Squirrel and it ends up in a tree branch....

Wilson: I need a little help here!

But the really funny part happened as I headed over to remedy the situation. We keep a broom outside to sweep the deck and patio, as well as remove all the icky spider webs that accumulate this time of year. It hangs on the outside of a small Rubbermaid shed that's against the house in the backyard, maybe ten paces back and to the right of Jimmy in this picture. As I said, this isn't the first time my throw has landed up out of reach. I normally go over and get the broom, and use it to knock the Squirrel down. Obviously Jimmy has put 2 and 2 together! Before I even made the turn to head for the broom, he flew over there and attacked it!

Brooms drive Jimmy absolutely batty!

It is a cheap broom and Jimmy quickly took a toll on the bristles! He yanked and pulled so hard that he actually pulled it out of the little rubber cap that the broom had for hanging it up.He darted off with the broom and I think he would have completely destroyed it if only mean me hadn't grabbed it away!

Bungle in the Jungle....to Dinner is a Winner!

As you've probably noticed by now, in posts like this one or maybe this one, photos can make me think of the lyrics from popular songs. Well, sometimes, it works the other way around as well. I'll hear a song on the radio on my drive to work and think how I could illustrate the lyrics with some photos.

In this case, I am going to do a little paraphrasing of these lyrics ....

Ok.....

Riding Out the Storm

On the ride home from work tonight I could see a thunder storm out to the west. Out in the direction of my neighborhood.....The closer to home I got, the darker it was, with large bolts of lightening and loud peals of thunder. In the homestretch, the rain began, just a little at first, and pouring down buckets by the time I hit the driveway. John's car was gone so I knew Jimmy would be beside himself in the house. He has a bad thunder phobia, and has even managed to infect Wilson with it. I open the door from the garage to the house, and both boys coming flying out! I turned around to get my laptop out of the back of my car and both boys asked most emphatically to be let in the car. They can't jump in without help, but do put their feet up on the door edge to help with being lifted in. I figured, what the heck, if it eases their worries, why not.

Sea of Green!

While most of the lawns in my area have turned a crunchy shade of brown, down by our neighborhood lake, things are still bursting with color! The color GREEN! Not only are the weeds and plants at the lake's edge thriving, but almost the entire back end of the lake is covered in aquatic plants!

Here's Wilson, sitting in the morning sun, against a backdrop of overgrown vegetation. I have monkeyed (or that would be PicMonkey-ed) with it a bit, but the contrast truly was this vivid! As soon as I saw this photo, Ringo Starr's voice popped into my head with some of the words from Yellow Submarine.....
