Saturday Steps

Here's another installment of Saturday Steps inspired by George the Lad. He has a really neat set posted today!

Friday Chuckle

This was another of those surprise pictures you get when you download your camera. My eyes are getting bad enough I don't catch everything there is to see in the camera's screen, even with how large it is on an SLR.

Any way, I see little cartoon bubbles above each boy's head. Jimmy's says,"Dang, this saltwater tastes crappy!" Wilson's say, "Ow! My eye! This saltwater stings like a b*tch!"

Click on the picture to enlarge.

What would you all put in the bubbles?

Splatter Pattern

I've probably watched a few too many episodes of NCIS what with the title I chose for today's picture! But I have to say, I LOVE MY CAMERA! Point and shoots and phone cameras may be convenient, but they don't see/catch what the SLR's do! I was really surprised to see the "rooster tail" of water splatters coming off of Jimmy. You gotta love the crazed expression on his face as well! Click to enlarge for the full effect.

Two for Tuesday

Well, not really two photos, but two Wilsons in the same shot. I LOVE how the beach reflects when the light is just right.

Breaker, Breaker

Jimmy especially loves to race around in the waves. He plays the same game young kids do....running into the water and then racing back to the shore to beat the wave.

Sometimes, he's not quite fast enough though, and the wave wins!

Here's Looking at You!

We're back from a nice long week in Myrtle Beach. We had absolutely gorgeous weather, nothing but blue skies! More pics coming soon after getting caught up with the chores. Looks like I have lots of blogs to catch up on as well....

Bright Light and Cattails

Of course, the boys would much rather be chasing "cat tails" than posing in front of "cattails", but, oh, well, C'est la vie!

Before and After

You might remember a while back I posted about Wilson's Odd Habit . Well, that's not his only quirky behavior. Fairly often, he likes to hop up on the sofa and root around like a gleeful pig, snorting, moaning, groaning, little barks and growls, wiggling until he has messed up the pillows to his satisfaction. He will do this whether anyone is there to watch or not. Last night he did a particularly good job of it. It's really quite cute! He started at the top left side and worked his way along....

After.......

And now for something completely different

Today was a gorgeous, cool, low humidity day. We decided to take a long motorcycle ride out to the Blue Ridge Mountains. As a destination, we picked Luray Caverns, the largest underground caverns on the east coast. It really is an amazing place, even if it is all tamed down for the tourists. It has a mile long path winding down 140 ft below ground and then back up again. Very, very cool scenery! It took thousands and thousands of years to form these mineral structures.

The water flow that created these formations is still drip, drip, dripping to this day....

The whole place is just incredible eye candy!

I included this shot with people to give a sense of scale......

This was growing out of the ceiling.

And my very favorite section down there was the undergound lake. The reflections were just so gorgeous!

And this is the view from the topside......Very pretty scenery here too. Oh, and believe it or not, dogs were welcome in the caverns with just one caveat...You had to carry them for the entire walk through the caverns. Somehow I don't think I could carry a Cardi for a mile!

Tunnel!

....But not the kind you were probably thinking!

On one of my routine walks, we pass over a paved drainage line that funnels rain into one of the ponds. I never paid much attention to the tunnels, other than to run the boys through them a couple times just for a lark. For some reason this summer, the home owners assoc. for my neighborhood decided to beautify the tunnel entrances by covering the plain cement with pretty stone. I walked by when the men were doing the work so it caught my eye. Instantly it bugged me as an interesting place to get a picture of the boys. As it turned out, it wasn't easy to accomplish and it didn't yield the effect I thought it would. First, trying to get the boys to each stay in their own tunnel end was tough. Each one was worried that the other one was getting a treat (I had brought treats to help get cooperation) so they popped out many times. Then the lighting just didn't do what I needed/wanted. Jimmy doesn't show up so well, a common black dog problem.

Wilson looking cute...Jimmy with a silly face.....

Jimmy showing up a little better.....

And saving my favorite for last....Both boys giving very cute expressions! But all the pretty stonework is gone, sigh......

Morning Light

Here's just Jimmy in the same grassy field as a few mornings back. I got a kick out of how his tongue was catching the sunlight.

The Swimming Hole....

.....before the boys have turned it into a muddy, murky mess. Luckily it only takes a foot of water for Cardis to have a place to swim!
