For George the Lad - Saturday Steps

Ever since I started keeping up with Welsh Terrier "George" , I have enjoyed his Saturday Steps themed posts. I began to notice steps everywhere, thinking, "oh, that would be a good spot for a picture". Today I took my camera along on the morning walk. I thought these garden steps coming out of someone's yard down to the trail had nice light. The boys weren't entirely into the whole posing thing, you know, squirrels to chase, poop to roll in, and all that, but this is for you George! See what you started!

Fourteen..... the number of MACH points Jimmy earned today! Woohoo! These are the very first MACH points I have ever gotten as Wilson was running in Preferred. Good thing you can start stacking up the points in JWW before you make it to Excellent B in the Standard ring. Jimmy continues to have table issues in Open STD, so there's no telling when I'll ever make it to the point of earning Double Qs. He was fast and clean in the rest of his Open run, so it's extra frustrating to have these table troubles. But I am not going to let that ruin the joy of my very first points. Jimmy even managed to get a 4th place in Excellent B Jumpers which is great. The competition increased significantly in the B class.

He also got his first Q in Open FAST with a 2nd place. The judge pretty much made a gift to all of us with a very simple Send. Almost all the dogs got it. I need two more generous courses like that and we will get our title. I don't think I will be trying Excellent FAST, it's just way too hard, and pretty much would be putting a match to my entry fee!

And so, Jimmy's and my journey to a MACH has begun....I hope I remember to savor every step!

An Award all the Way from the UK!

I was very flattered recently to receive a blog award from Welsh Terrier "George" . I discovered his blog one day while hopping around on blog-lists. I absolutely love his header photo! Thank you George for passing this award my way!

Accepting this award comes with a few rules and requirements....I need to pass the award along to 15 (!) other bloggers that I have recently discovered and enjoy....I have quite a few blogs I follow that I don't have on my blogroll so I will feature some of these, although I don't think I will reach 15. Here goes, in no particular order:

1) A Cardi-blogger who discovered me first: Darby's Daily . This one is in my blogroll as she certainly blends in well with all of our Cardi-blogs.

2) Dr.Grumpy in the House , this is an anonymous neurologist's blog, who quite obviously was a comedian in another life. He writes about the silly things that occur in his practice, his life and in the news.

3) Honey Rock Dawn , this is a relatively new blog by Shreve Stockton, the young women behind the wildly successfully blog The Daily Coyote . She is a very talented writer and photographer!

4) By randomly looking at the blog of one of the commenters on Honey Rock Dawn, I found Red Dirt in My Soul . This woman lives in Wyoming near Shreve and her blog talks of the day to day details of a cattle ranch. Her lifestyle is so far from anything most of us can imagine! Lovely pictures, beautiful scenery!

5) Life with Dogs , a blogger with a great sense of humor, who keeps us up-to-date on dogs stories in the news, funny posts about the resident dogs, occasional contests, etc. This is another blogger who found me first.

There must be something in the water up in Canada because I have found so many bloggers up there that take amazing photographs! The next couple of blogs are an example....

6) Not only does this one have great photos, she weaves some hilarious stories around the pictures! 2 Woofs & a Woo

7) More wonderful photographs and scenery, Crazy and Little . And her professional site as well: Paws on the Run Photography

8) Another UK blogger who found me first, An English Shepherd . Flyball is the sport of choice for this pup!

The next two are a couple of professional photographers I enjoy viewing.

9) April Ziegler , a dog and wedding photographer in Philadelphia, Pa. She does a lovely job!

10) Leesia Teh , another dog photographer, and more lovely, lovely photos.

So there's my list of blogs I think are worth a look. I didn't make it to 15 and it certainly isn't complete, but these are blogs I have bookmarked for easy viewing.

Thanks again to adorable George over there in the UK! I know you must be a wonderful dog, as what else would we expect from a pup with Welsh origins!

Jimmy's Excellent Adventure!

Jimmy was a very EXCELLENT boy this weekend! It was a two day trial held by the Elkhound Club in a nice building (great soccer turf!) in Fredericksburg, Va.

Saturday's first run was Open FAST and unfortunately we didn't get the Send, so of course, we could not Q.

Next was Excellent A Jumpers, where Jimmy put in a stellar performance. He took first place and earned his second JWW leg.

Late in the day, Open Standard finally came around. Alas, no table....and it was all downhill from there. Enough said.

Today's Open FAST had the same outcome. Mainly my fault because I didn't realize I could send him in from a spot that probably would have worked. I learned something....

Excellent JWW was again my next run. And again Jimmy did a great job! I had thought it might have been fast enough for another first, but as it turned out it was actually a third place. But since it's the Q I wanted, I am still very happy! This was leg number three and Jimmy's Excellent JWW title! WOOHOO! He did it in just four tries and in less than a year of trialing! I am proud of my little boy!

And to make this even sweeter, Jimmy's breeder, Anne, and her husband, drove up to watch. I was so glad we Q'd to make the drive worthwhile for them!

Jimmy's Open Standard run had the judge in giggles and most likely the audience as well. The start was a jump to a dogwalk/tunnel discrimination. Jimmy was *supposed* to take the dogwalk. Despite a very definite clue from me, he thought the tunnel looked more fun. In he went, so I tried to correct, and in he went again, and then AGAIN. He was having a blast circling through. Fourth time around he finally did the dogwalk. I guess he was getting dizzy and decided to move on! He next refused the teeter, something he is a tad prone to. He did get on the table, but since he was already NQ'd, I didn't pressure him for the sit, just asked for a stay. The rest of the run went well. The Aframe/tunnel discrimination near the end posed no problem at all. I guess he was tired of the tunnel by then.....

It was definitely a very EXCELLENT adventure this weekend!

Jimmy's Open Standard Video

I opened up a YouTube account and uploaded Jimmy's Open STD run. It took all of about 10 minutes! Blogger could take a lesson from YouTube!

The Weekend Report

Jimmy kicks some serious Bunny Butt at the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Potomac Agility Trial!

Yesterday, at the agility trial held by the PWC Club of the Potomac, Jimmy was at the top of his game! His first run of the day was Excellent A - JWW. He gave me a nice speedy run, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out he earned first place! This is leg #1 toward his title. He had 41 seconds to get it done, and he did it in 30.7.

Shortly there after, we headed to the Open STD ring. Since we are having table troubles, I really wasn't expecting a Q. It was a fun, roomy course. Jimmy didn't really want to get on the table, but hopped on with a bit of sass. I asked for a down several times since he has more practice with that (it was a sit today). He wasn't going to do it, so I moved in a bit closer and low and behold, he sat! And stayed for the count! Off we went to complete the run cleanly. WooHoo! I was EXTREMELY surprised when I learned, even with losing probably 10 seconds to the table struggle, that we still got first place! Between others NQing and the faster 2nd place dog scoring a 95 to my clean 100, we got the Blue! And just to make it even sweeter, that second place dog was the super speedy Cavalier King Charles that beat us a few weekends back! So, for this run, we had 71 seconds to get it done, and even with his slow table, Jimmy did it in 56.47 seconds. Finally, we have a leg in Open STD!

I don't know how to edit my video, so here it is straight out the camera. I am just glad fellow competitiors are willing to grab up someone's camera and film!

I tried three times to upload our Standard run to no avail. Not sure what the issue is.... But here is our JWW run:
