Creature of Comfort

As if the bed isn't quite good enough, Jimmy takes comfort to the next level........

We've all got to earn our keep....... Jimmy puts in time as the resident Mail Shredder. Here he's seen in Idle Mode, waiting for the next piece of junk mail. I am not so sure I would let him shred my credit card statements, but for the less sensitive items, he gets the job done!

Neighborhood Watch

When nothing else is going on (i.e. food opportunities) the boys' preferred perch is the front guest room. From here they can keep a close eye on the comings and goings of the neighbors, any dog walkers, the mailman, the Fedex truck, kids coming home from school, etc.....And they make darn sure we know they are on guard duty!

Pure Joy!

Here in Virginia, we still have full snow coverage everywhere. There are no fun walks for the boys, just mundane sidewalk strolls to get the business done. The backyard is still too deep except for the "racetrack" we shoveled for them and it is turning into a muddy mess.

These pictures are of the moment I took the leash off of Wilson and set him free on the beach. He took off running huge loops around the sand, zigging this way and that, dodging Jimmy's attempts to tackle him. These photos aren't great but I do love to see the joy on his face!

Jimmy Enjoying Westminster

Jimmy is yet another Cardi who enjoys a good TV program. We watched a bit of the WKC show while we were down in Myrtle Beach. Jimmy gets very excited and very vocal watching dogs (any animal really...) on the tube. Since we were in a condo, I had to keep changing the channel to calm him down. He was cheering way too loud with so many neighbors in close proximity!

And a belated CONGRATULATIONS to Janet, Scout and Cheryl! What a thrill that must have been!

Photographic Definition of Irony

We planned a little getaway for the long Valentine's Day / President's Day weekend. We decided to head down to our condo in Myrtle Beach, SC. We wanted to get away from all the snow we have here and let the dogs have a few days to romp without slipping and sliding, or getting bogged down in over-their-heads snow.

We headed out after work last Friday. We hit horrendous traffic on 95 South but the roads were clear of snow, just heavily loaded with cars. We were interested to see when we would clear the snow zone and start to see grass once again. That came somewhere south of Richmond, Va. We stopped for gas in Wilson, NC (yes, they named a town after my dog!) and couldn't believe it when we saw it was starting to snow. We figured it was just a fluke, gassed up, and continued on. The further south we went, the heavier the snow fell. After a while, it started to stick to the highway, but not too badly. Thirty minutes more and we were getting nervous. By Fayetteville, NC, it was snowing so hard and the road got so slippery, we called it quits and grabbed a motel for the rest of the night.

It took about two hours to complete our trip the next morning. We were greeted by a very rare sight in SC and even rarer at the beach: SNOW! Yes, they got several inches of snow in Myrtle Beach! Alot had melted by the time we arrived, but I was able to snap these pictures of snow on palm trees!

So, we went south to escape the snow, and found even more snow! But, how cool it to see it way down south?

Mr.Wilson's Turn

I really liked this one for the happy expression and also the splattering of snow blowing by. A breeze went by just as I snapped the picture and snow floated down off a nearby tree.

I call this one "Pig Nose"....

A few pictures of Jimmy from last week's snow. Now it is too deep for anything but walking where the road has been plowed.....

Teetering on the Brink of Insanity!

Well, here we go again! We have ANOTHER blizzard hitting the Washington DC metro area! Gale force winds and potentially another 20 inches of snow.....The Federal Gov't has closed for the third straight day, unbelievable!

Fortunately, the company I work for is very liberal about teleworking in bad weather, so as long as the power holds out, I can work from home. Thank goodness for today's technology 'cause I would hate to burn through my vacation for this BS.

The view out my kitchen window looks like something out of The Shining! The poor dogs are used to a minimum of a three mile walk each morning. Needless to say they aren't getting enough exercise these last few days! I am doing lots of obedience work to try and tire them out, plus long bouts of indoor fetch.

I doubt I will even post any photos as I am done with the whole snow thing!

Thanks for letting me rant!

Check Out this Blog

I came across this blog today. While not Cardigan related, it is very dog related. It is a blog run by a former Disney animator, Jim George. It is called Draw the Dog . Take a look around, I think you will enjoy it!

The Storm of the Century

Well, the official snowfall total at Dulles Int'l Airport (just a couple miles from my house) was 32 inches! That's a whole lotta snow, especially considering we already had about a six inch base. There is a possibility of six more inches tomorrow night. If all our winters were like this one, I would be moving south! It's pretty, no doubt, but enough is enough!

The path headed to the backyard, where we have shoveled a racetrack for the boys. It is so deep they lose sight of each other and have to "prairie dog" up to find each other.

That's a four foot fence......
My deck railing with an interesting formation......

Another interesting formation.......

It took three different shoveling sessions to keep the driveway passable. I have more than a few achy muscles!

The year following college graduation I spent in New Orleans. It is a wonderful place and will be forever in my heart! I SO, SO hope the Saints win the Super Bowl!

GO New Orleans! GO Saints!

Digging Out

Here's a preview of photos to come! We got somewhere close to THIRTY inches of snow. We lost power for nine hours and I can't tell you how many times I flicked a light switch expecting a light to come on. We did lots of shoveling all day yesterday just to keep up, and there's plenty more to do today. I'll post more pictures later.....

Winter Scenery

Another winter storm, one we are warned will have near-blizzard conditions tonight and the possiblity of 24 inches of snow, is just now making its appearance. These pictures are from last weekend when the sun shone brightly the day after a smaller storm. What an unusual winter we are having! Today is the 8th snowstorm that has dropped measurable snow. So often our winters hold nothing but a flurry or two and some icy rain.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

I pulled this close up out of one of the frapping pictures from the other day. It's not totally sharp, but I could tell Jimmy had a great look on his face. It was all in good frapping fun, but boy, he sure has the devil in his eyes!

Yet Again

I hadn't even finished posting pictures from the weekend snowstorm, and we got dumped on AGAIN last night! I don't remember moving to the Snow Belt, but I guess we did.

Here are pictures from this morning's walk....

A view of my backyard as we head out for the trail....

The boys posing on the linear park behind my house. It's an old railroad bed converted to a regional park. It provides for some great walks as there is a paved side for bikes, etc., and a gravel side for horses and dog walkers.

I liked this next one just for the splash of color in an otherwise B&W world....

One of the paw prints in my heart...........

Wilson's Odd Habit

Wilson has an odd but rather endearing habit of rolling up in area rugs. When the mood strikes him, usually when he wants to play or he wants human attention, he starts by putting his head down/butt up and pushes along until his head is covered by the area rug. All the while he's making the silly little grunts and groans we all know as Cardi-speak. He then rolls around until his whole body is under the rug. He'll even do it with his heavy round bed. He especially loves it when we egg him on!

Here's a recent example....

In the upstairs office is a small round rug. Every single morning, before heading down to the kitchen, Wilson will go in and roll around on and under the rug. He even has to bypass the steps to get to the office. We have a running joke about how well he slept and how good the day will be based on how rumpled up the rug is left. Some days he rolls with extra gusto, others just a quick flip of one corner. It's really quite adorable.

Jimmy AKA The Geese Policeman

Down by the lake, one of Jimmy's favorite tasks is to keep the Canada geese off the grass and in the water where they belong!

Here, he surveys the task at hand.....

Sneaking a bit closer.....

And the attack! In warmer weather he will go into the water after them, but in this case received a firm recall as the air temp was somewhere around 20 degrees. A tad too chilly for a sopping wet dog.......

Another favorite activity down by the lake is eating the goose poop, whether fresh or frozen as it was this weekend. Fortunately the snow was deep enough it masked the location of said poops.

Another New Cardigan Blog!!!

I don't know if anyone else has posted about this new blog yet, so here goes:
